Norman Jay tells us about his musical journey, from a homemade sound system at the 1980 Notting Hill Carnival to becoming one of the most respected DJs in the world today.

‘I loved 1960s Northern Soul, the sound of Motown, Philadelphia, Stax, the James Brown era of funk, which morphed into mid to late 1970s disco, into electro, into hip-hop, and then latterly house music, drum and bass and reggae… I’ve been into everything’.

Jay also discusses the importance of music to break down boundaries and welcome people without prejudice, and the importance of preserving musical history for future generations to enjoy.

Norman Jay brings his Good Times band to the Southbank Centre on 29 March, 2024 to spin tracks that have shaped UK music. Book now: https://southbankc.re/494Hdu8
