Ooo this is so interesting, it sounds like they expanded to these languages thinking it would be as easy as European languages and just ended up with a bad product. Have you used language reactor with Japanese? I’m curious how they would compare

I hope Lingopie improves the Japanese. I will say it is very good for Spanish, the only one I've spent time with.

I tried it for Korean and just couldn’t engage with the content. I think the principle of it is really good but it just isn’t executed well (I’m assuming for their later languages) when there are a lot free tools out there that do a similar job to a better standard.

Let me know about the Mandarin one. I had thought about using it for Mandarin, but I already have a ton of language apps.

If you still want to try something similar to Lingopie, i would suggest Language Reactor or Migaku. Same basic idea, but they use the official English subtitles. And to be fair, the official subtitles aren't always the best for learning either, because a literal translation from Japanese would often sound weird. I prefer the interface of Language Reactor, but Migaku also exports to Anki, including a screenshot and audio recording (!). It takes a bit of tweaking when setting it up, but i prefer having all my vocab in one place, instead of across all these apps and their built-in SRS.

Cute Japanese study - it's like the basic things you are learning in Japanese are the same basic things I'm learning in Korean right now. It's fun to be in that beginner-ish stage (learning about simple topics like animals, basic verbs, and grammar etc.) BTW, I love that Japanese comprehensible input channel for beginners and intermediates. I think she puts out a lot of high quality videos. There was one similar to that for Korean, but she hasn't made a new video in like 3 years so I think she's not coming back 😞 At least I got to watch all that she had though. Edit: Yeah I wasn't a fan of Lingopie for whatever language I used it for either (I think it was French or German)... from what you showed, looks atrocious for Japanese.

I have a random question that's less about the actual app and more of the shoes they have lol
Do they still have Cardfight Vanguard in there? I read an article that mentioned that it has that anime, but I'm unsure if it's still on the service.

LingoPie is a fun way to learn a new language. But if you’re looking for a free and cost-efficient way to go about things, then please consider downloading Immersive Translate. I personally use it to study a new language, and it has been very helpful so far.

I know this is a video from a few months ago but thank you for making this. I never heard of lingopie until I got an ad for it. You saved me a lot of time with this video thank you. Though I did learn of a new free source thanks to you! I'll be checking out Irodori soon!

I tried lingopie Spanish a while back, and I wasn't impressed. They had some shows that weren't actually interesting, and I had objections to enough of the translations that I didn't feel like I could trust it with words & phrases I didn't already know).

So it's not just Japanese.

I've used it for French and it's been great, I think maybe it's bad specifally for languages like Japanese and Chinese where there are no spaces between words, so the algorythm struggles at correctly parsing seperate words. Thanks for the review becuase I've been thinking about trying it for Japanese.

Have you tried Lingopie, and for what languages? Leave a comment and let me know! I'm curious if the experience differs for different languages 🤔
