I am sure many of you who live outside of the Balkans have 99% forgotten what happend in the serbo-croat war.
In Croatia there was a region called Kraina. ( think Donbas).
Majority of the people in Kraina were serbs.
So when the war was hot, the serbs did what the people in Donbas did. They wanted to cut ties with Zagreb.
And when Croatia received help, millitary help from the west, Germany and others, Vatican helped too. THEN THE CROATS become stronger, and Milosevic sold the Kraina serbs at the time.
So, what happened. The croats started an offensive called STORM.
THEY literally stormed Kraina, and expelled all serbs from Kraina.
Serbs who have lived there for hundred of years.
So, after Maidan, and when the Donbas regions decided to cut links with Kiev, when their democratic votes were cancelled by Kiev coup nationalists, the americans told the ukrainians that if they are helped militarily with money and weapons, then same story as Kraina will replay in Donbas.
Even some of the Croatian generals who were involved in operation Storm in Kraina, went to Kiev and told the ukrainians how they did it.
SO, THE UKRAINIANS BOUGHT THE STORY.
THEY THOUGHT, IF THE CROATIANS EXPELLED THE SERBS FROM CROATIA, AND WHOLE WESTERN WORLD WENT BLIND AND DEAF ABOUT THAT. THEN THE UKRAINIANS WITH STRONGER MILLITARY POWER WILL DO THE SAME.
They will storm Donbas and expel the ethnic russian people there.
Because, that is the only way they can get Donbas again.
They thought,, they will do second Kraina operation.
But, what they didn't thought trough was - Serbia is small country, and couldn't help the serbs in Kraina.
Contrary, Russia is very powerful country, and they can definitely help the russians in Donbas.
And another thing, the ukrainians missed.
And that is Putin is not Milosevic.
If nothing else, Putin is in much more powerful position that Milosevic.
So, the problem in the ukrainian establishment is, they didn't think wisely, they chose wrong options.
As a result Ukraine is paying heavy price.
