Heist films seem so much less generic after listening to this...literally all the tropes are real LOL. Great episode!

The reason a jury can't be made aware of previous convictions unless it is relevant to the charges in question is because it can colour their opinion of the defendent.

It's predudical even if its logical that criminals repeat offend. To be considered a fair trial, the jury must only draw opinions from the evidence presented at that trial. For one, by all rights Biggs already did his time for his previous crimes, so those shouldn't count against him. And two, what if he was innocent of that particular crime? It's a corner stone of the justice system in most western countries that a trial only deals with the specific charges brought against a defendent with an unbiased jury.

Not saying he was inccoent of the previous crimes or the train robbery. But that is the standard to make sure people aren't punished for past crimes, whether they actually committed them or not.

I know this video won't be too popular, but for me, the whole channel could be like this.
Less of the 1337th dude who murdered his family and more of "The great train heist" kinda stuff.

US Letter Carrier here, post trains stopped operating in the US in 1977. I'm guessing they ended around the same time in the UK. However, typically it is faster to sort the mail quickly in one facility, put it on a plane, and fly it to it's destination now. Granted that is much easier in the US where distances are greater but I think considering how big and automated most sorting equipment is for mail and packages it seems unlikely that it is still common in Europe or the UK. However, there are more passenger trains and high speed rail networks, so I could see it still being done in the UK and Europe but sadly not in the US because frankly it sounds like a great job

Dude, I'm not a 'kid' so 'glazing it up' is no familiair slang to me. Though, I do love your 'enthusiasm' often commented on by yourself and explained as, well, [your words of explanation here]. I'm not a True Crime podcaster/vlogger, though I've seen my uncountable hours of police interview hours, all varying from my very own stupid behavriour to very high level witness reports (no snitching, never never never ever snitching, something I do not condone you seem to be a large fan of...) but then again, you can still travel to Israel, and I can not. Them not even being a real state, like the UK (the irony) having no Constitution. By the way, I'm an Enemy of the US of A too, for a minor detail to be clear. Both regions are of no interest to me whatsoever, except for loathing and stacks of hate, so no hard feelings here. Yet, you are obviously cleaner then I am, and I do appreiciate that. Great fucking video, mate, again, next to some flaws and seemingly openminded but actually full-blown and well deserved ignorance in your rants you very well think ahead, analyze and a hundred per cent are right about LAWYERS and 'NO COMMENT" being the only two fucking words you have to ever know, for you do not ever, EVER talk to a cop, unless there are very rare cicrumstances (of which 'A LAWYER' is the f*ckin' first rule of the few).

The fingerprints appearing on the monopoly game at an earlier date in a different location because they were good friends does provide reasonable doubt. I don't think the defense was trying to say he stopped by the farm for a quick game of monopoly while the others were hiding from the cops xD

Hey Simon, great episode! I might be a minority, but I really appreciate no-murdery podcasts. Violence is violence, but the serial killer stuff at some point tip the interesting/repulsive peak towards the repulsive side of the diagram -although you do a great work at not presenting the gore og it. Also, I thoroughly enjoy your frustation at criminals not criminaling properly.

I think it's hilarious that Simon will mis-read something & go off on rants ! It said that Daly had played monopoly on a EARLIER occasion & that's how his prints got on it. Not because he came by the farm to play monopoly.
