I use music as "the soundtrack of my life". When I listen to an "old" music it instantly takes me back to that specific time/memories. Few years ago I started composing my own music adding very familiar sounds in the background. It is kind of an experiment for myself for the future. What will be my reaction when I go back and listen to my "old" music with those familiar sounds? Music is taken in through the senses yet, is interpreted by a part of the mind that never dies. Alzheimer's can take a lot away but, music is beyond its grasp of destruction. A simple melody carries messages as old as time and as vast as the multiverse. When words and other worldly symbols fail to connect with a person with Alzheimer's, music, in all its divinity, can always bypass all barriers and speak directly to the minds infinite eye.

It seems modern music is too wild for older folk, and there may be a lack of positive message in modern music. I grew up thinking it should be entertaining and in the positive sence, happy, thought provoking, relaxing, soothing, rather than a noxious anx riddled drama.

right, I meant angst, and we can buy great modern music but I sort of meant what the industry is pushing at us...... like for instance what everhappened to volcal harmonies and guitar solos, intelligent rhymes, and music you would like your own kids to listen too when they get older? Its subjective for sure but I've been around music for over 40 years now and I know im sounding like my parents or someone against this new "elvis crap". Oddly, there been few pop songs lately worth humming.

I sort of guess modern music just went in a direction that is not well suited for the volume of people from young to old, unlike older stuff. Its a generalization, and I hope something like a modern day Beatles or something would come along.

I think Coldplay realized the needs for new musical directions, and they might be capitalizing on it. I think I've heard a few of their song on occasion, and possibly someone mentioned they might be trying to take off where the Bealtes left.

Coldplay, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. Some of those are 90s bands, but they are still active. Most of the music I listen to is late 60s, 70s, and 80s rock, stuff like Floyd, Beatles, Rush, and Zeppelin, but we still got some great bands and hopefully more to come in the future, there's still people who play classical and jazz and rock and do it very well and compose. And in reference to hip hop, there are MANY true artists who make good music, ex: 2pac.

Ok, I just realized that we should be thankful that we are allowed to have music, and even hearing, its just that are we thankful for the devil and are we in need of improvment, to each his own. I do like some of Beck.

I have one. It works really well. Thus, this man's diatribe comes off as irrelevant. Music is powerful - yeah we knew that since caveman days, big deal.

I kind of brought down hip hop there since it's seen as "money, bitches and guns". That's the stereotype of it, and I fell for it too, but that's commercial hip hop, and it's bad, but if you really get into it and find the real ones that are in it for the music and not the money, trust me, it's really nice.

This is a very good clip. My only criticism is its name: "Musicophilia." I don't think it has always been this way, but at least now any "philiacs" are deviants who are in need of counseling or even incarceration to avoid them doing harm to themselves or others. Seeing this name causes me to wonder if some day a true love of music might be considered in bad taste.... "See that guy bobbing his head? What a Muso!"

Why write at all if you're just going to say something mean? Do you not have any better things to do?

+darkridr25 "philia" means "attraction", as "phobia" means "repulsion" - in chemistry, there are compounds which are hydrophiles (attracted to water) and hydrophobes (repulsed by water); without these sorts of compounds, we wouldn't have things like soap.

How wonderful to hear these words and the symphony of the words he is using. Art & Music makes life worth living!

I'm losing my memory right now...getting older every day. Glad to hear that via music it's "not all lost!" My "identity," what there is of it, is revived with music since I was a child. Tears of joy to my eyes.

I’m inspired. Going to look into how I start in this field as I’m burnt out from private lessons. Thanks!
