Let's not be too sentimental about the fate of Guy Fawkes and his friends, they were intent on regime change whatever the cost and they were fully aware of what would happen to them if they failed .In the years following rhe Reformation, Catholicism wasnt just another religion , catholics were committed to replacing the Protestant monarch at the express instruction of the Pope . They were a genuine national security threat .

Lots of errors in this video, incorrect names of the people executed and the place of Anne Boleyn trial was The Great Hall not Westminster Hall

Sinead, I was so intrigued by this video I had to wach it again. I'm surprised that theres not a bigger memorial of the tyburn Gallows instead of a sewer cover. It deserves the respect like the statue or something more. Thank you for such an in depth knowledge of London History that you have and share with us. Aussie Roger the Wombat !!!!!

I started watching your tours during Covid, starting with your Jack the Ripper tour. My teenage daughter got hooked on your videos as well (I'm from Newry so she says she loves your accent). So after learning so much from your tours, she made the decision to go to go university at Oxford. Her favorite thing to do on weekend is to train into London and try to follow your tours. I'm forever grateful to you for helping my daughter see that university abroad can be a great thing. She is even considering LSE for graduate school - she may never return to our home in Pennsylvania damn you.

The pub accross the way, the viaduct tavern, has the remnants of the womans ward of Newgate in its cellars. There is also a church close by which had a tunnel from the church to newgate, and there is a bell in the church which used to be rung on the day of execution.

Imagine being executed for damaging a rabbit warren! The executioners must have been some very grim fellows----especially carrying out drawn-and-quartering people. I assume that if Jack the Ripper had been caught and convicted, he would have been put to dearh . Fascinating history, Sinead.

Sinead was actually correct when she used 'hung, drawn & quartered'.

'Hanged' is specifically used when a person is put to death by hanging, but in the case of 'hanging, drawing & quartering', the person isn't being ended by the hanging part, so using 'hung' is correct in this situation.
