As someone who believes in language preservation and having official languages, I support Quebec's decision. However, that doesn't mean they're going about this in the right way. This law is somewhat comically overdone and inconvenient, and the fact that nobody was willing to answer their questions is just grossly opaque.

I also wholeheartedly support Quebec independence though, so that's definitely influencing my thoughts here lol.

Oh, thank God for this new law. I can't tell you how embarrassed I was when I was shopping for socks and underwear and went into a Canada Tire store, only to find all they sell is tires. Who knew? Exhausted and red-faced, I thought I'd comfort myself in a nice cup of coffee and relax for a bit--only to find Dollarama wouldn't make me a coffee. Well, to salvage what was left of the day, I decided to have a nice lunch at the Foot Locker. Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't know that Foot Locker isn't a restaurant? I look forward to these new signs to save me from further humiliation.

After 3 years of Covid, cost of housing and living, large lost of jobs, multiple businesses disappearing and more to come, high interests rates, the recession, all the migrants, high gas prices that are coming back soon, the EV scandal that will come out, the soon high raise of electricity etc. I think that signage for existing businesses is the least of Canadians issues, this seems to be a way for the Block to keep or gain votes for the next election and that is all it is. I am from Québec, i have called Canadian tire, Mcdonald's, Dollarama by their names for more than 30 to 50 years and that will not change for me. The costs of changing their storefronts signs will be paid by all customers in Québec and Canada, why so a minister can use this for his re-election?? Nah thank you. New businesses if the government and politicians want they can make those new businesses their regulations etc. Politicians love wasting peoples time, money and taxes in the end, because it never comes out of their own pockets at all. If it does they vote that they need a raise, an expense account increase etc 😞 The country needs housing all over and i am not talking a few 1000's houses either, with all those migrants brought in under false premise, that are here only to be able to be voting on the next election and nothing else. My grandparents and parents had come from Europe in 1957, 3 to 5 years to be accepted in the country. They had to prove they'd have a godfather to vouch for them, a place to stay, a job on arrival, they spoke french and English. Then waited for another 5 years when they were allowed to receive their papers saying the were now Canadian citizens!! The new migrants get off the plane, cross the border illegally and poof the government gets them a place to live, clothing, food, a cell phone, food stamps, a monthly high welfare check, they do not speak any of our languages, know nothing of our customs, laws etc!!!😒 I think that is disgusting to all Canadians.

If it costs more for a company to operate in Quebec, that will be passed directly on to the consumer. In the end this will only hurt the people who live and shop at these stores, who I presume speak French. When a new company looks at operational costs setting up in a province that seems to make business pay for their war on language, they may think twice about moving into Quebec at all.

Cut the crap out. Quebec has to start focusing on fighting corruption and fixing healthcare before worrying about what kind of language a store sign is written on. Seriously, the stupidity of Quebec is beyond comprehension.

I am in Quebec, this is nuts, no cares about this. Where they should hit is all those restaurants, stores that have signs that are bigger in various languages like Arab, Chinese and others. Doing this new signage will cost money, so Quebec will grab sales taxes on the work, cities will charge more for a new sign, and we will foot the bill, us consumers at the end. All of this for preserving the French language! No, it will do nothing. There way more important issues to solve then wasting time and money on this, it shows that these people are not connected with current issues and trying to validate their paycheck.

Obviously the “Canadians” don’t understand. But you never take the trouble to speak to us in French, while we force ourselves to speak to you in the only language that you are capable of speaking and understanding.

Imagine, you are surrounded by people who don't speak your language, let's say the stores start displaying in Punjabi? You are going to do what?

You are not alone in the world, your racism towards French-speaking Quebec is becoming heavy. You don't want to learn French, but we would have to lose our identity to please you?

So how come provinces like Ontario have to adopt two languages, and Quebec thinks that it can ban English from businesses. This is just a bunch of nonsense.

At this point, Ontario should just ban French, to make it fair and square.

I'm a french Canadian and i think this law is beyond stupidity. Even if you don't speak a single word of English, you would still somehow get that Home Depot is a hardware store. How do you think they managed to successfully open stores in Quebec without needing to add "Quincaillerie" to their sign? Because people are not complete moron. It is way more important to focus on ensuring that people can be served in french in the store.
