As someone who believes in language preservation and having official languages, I support Quebec's decision. However, that doesn't mean they're going about this in the right way. This law is somewhat comically overdone and inconvenient, and the fact that nobody was willing to answer their questions is just grossly opaque.
I also wholeheartedly support Quebec independence though, so that's definitely influencing my thoughts here lol.
Oh, thank God for this new law. I can't tell you how embarrassed I was when I was shopping for socks and underwear and went into a Canada Tire store, only to find all they sell is tires. Who knew? Exhausted and red-faced, I thought I'd comfort myself in a nice cup of coffee and relax for a bit--only to find Dollarama wouldn't make me a coffee. Well, to salvage what was left of the day, I decided to have a nice lunch at the Foot Locker. Am I the only person on the planet who doesn't know that Foot Locker isn't a restaurant? I look forward to these new signs to save me from further humiliation.
ОтветитьAfter 3 years of Covid, cost of housing and living, large lost of jobs, multiple businesses disappearing and more to come, high interests rates, the recession, all the migrants, high gas prices that are coming back soon, the EV scandal that will come out, the soon high raise of electricity etc. I think that signage for existing businesses is the least of Canadians issues, this seems to be a way for the Block to keep or gain votes for the next election and that is all it is. I am from Québec, i have called Canadian tire, Mcdonald's, Dollarama by their names for more than 30 to 50 years and that will not change for me. The costs of changing their storefronts signs will be paid by all customers in Québec and Canada, why so a minister can use this for his re-election?? Nah thank you. New businesses if the government and politicians want they can make those new businesses their regulations etc. Politicians love wasting peoples time, money and taxes in the end, because it never comes out of their own pockets at all. If it does they vote that they need a raise, an expense account increase etc 😞 The country needs housing all over and i am not talking a few 1000's houses either, with all those migrants brought in under false premise, that are here only to be able to be voting on the next election and nothing else. My grandparents and parents had come from Europe in 1957, 3 to 5 years to be accepted in the country. They had to prove they'd have a godfather to vouch for them, a place to stay, a job on arrival, they spoke french and English. Then waited for another 5 years when they were allowed to receive their papers saying the were now Canadian citizens!! The new migrants get off the plane, cross the border illegally and poof the government gets them a place to live, clothing, food, a cell phone, food stamps, a monthly high welfare check, they do not speak any of our languages, know nothing of our customs, laws etc!!!😒 I think that is disgusting to all Canadians.
ОтветитьIf it costs more for a company to operate in Quebec, that will be passed directly on to the consumer. In the end this will only hurt the people who live and shop at these stores, who I presume speak French. When a new company looks at operational costs setting up in a province that seems to make business pay for their war on language, they may think twice about moving into Quebec at all.
ОтветитьIts still KFC in France, duhhhh
ОтветитьCut the crap out. Quebec has to start focusing on fighting corruption and fixing healthcare before worrying about what kind of language a store sign is written on. Seriously, the stupidity of Quebec is beyond comprehension.
ОтветитьI am in Quebec, this is nuts, no cares about this. Where they should hit is all those restaurants, stores that have signs that are bigger in various languages like Arab, Chinese and others. Doing this new signage will cost money, so Quebec will grab sales taxes on the work, cities will charge more for a new sign, and we will foot the bill, us consumers at the end. All of this for preserving the French language! No, it will do nothing. There way more important issues to solve then wasting time and money on this, it shows that these people are not connected with current issues and trying to validate their paycheck.
ОтветитьQuebec does this while the rest of Canada bends over backwards to add french text to all crown websites, store products, and govt communication letters.
ОтветитьObviously the “Canadians” don’t understand. But you never take the trouble to speak to us in French, while we force ourselves to speak to you in the only language that you are capable of speaking and understanding.
Imagine, you are surrounded by people who don't speak your language, let's say the stores start displaying in Punjabi? You are going to do what?
You are not alone in the world, your racism towards French-speaking Quebec is becoming heavy. You don't want to learn French, but we would have to lose our identity to please you?
JUST USE EMOJIES DAMMIT no habla Franchy iz speak norta'Merican eh
Ответитьhmm,?
What is the word "Canada", in French.?
I suppose the French speakers will not be watching this video, unless they have an interpreter,!
Reading all these racism comments is hurting me so bad...
ОтветитьOui, et alors? Ca ne va pas m’empêcher de dormir. Pauvre petites entreprises! A bobo le panneau?
Ответитьi already make a point of driving straight through Quebec and will never spend a dime in their province
ОтветитьTime for Quebec to seperate "Completely" from Canada. Not the sovereignty association crap!!!! Leave, Good Riddance!!
ОтветитьSo how come provinces like Ontario have to adopt two languages, and Quebec thinks that it can ban English from businesses. This is just a bunch of nonsense.
At this point, Ontario should just ban French, to make it fair and square.
I am a French Quebecois and I have no freakin clue why CAQ does this. I have members of my family that only speak French and they know and understand what is a Canadian Tire... Thanks again CAQ to make us look like bafoons 🤦
ОтветитьCanada has two major problems.
The French, and a 5000-mile unguarded border withh the USA.
Its his jaws so funny to see anglophone people dramatise the situation. I understand more the joke of the Taquinons la planet and RBO now.
ОтветитьI'm a french Canadian and i think this law is beyond stupidity. Even if you don't speak a single word of English, you would still somehow get that Home Depot is a hardware store. How do you think they managed to successfully open stores in Quebec without needing to add "Quincaillerie" to their sign? Because people are not complete moron. It is way more important to focus on ensuring that people can be served in french in the store.
ОтветитьYes? It’s Quebec, but it’s also part of Canada. Should be able to be either French or English.
ОтветитьAnother example of Quebec believing they deserve preferential treatment over the rest of the country
ОтветитьOr have Quebec speak English
Ответитьimagine hurrying up and getting the trademark for the french version of these names . and then the company needs to buy them from you.
ОтветитьNobody does language policing quite like the Canadians ❤
Ответитьi am french i prefer the real name like burger king non roi du burger
i try my best to learn english and watch content in english
Golf Town is French already, or are Qubecois so dense that town isn't a word in their language and it has to be Golf Ville? What if they found a guy named Town to be a minority owner, or does it have to be a majority?
ОтветитьWhat a disgusting province! I wish all these stores would just leave so theu jave nothing 😅
ОтветитьThe French school system is the pits a teacher told me... These people hate English people, yes hate. Just look at the BLOCK Quebecois and how they blocked the carbon tax exemption to Western Canadians...
ОтветитьWho asked for this... Nobody asked for this!
ОтветитьLeave QueBECQUElaFranceBonMatin and 2 digits to the stark staring bonkers loopy paranoid politicians, let them stew in their own juice.
Ответитьwhy don't they just say the brands with a French accent ? ome depo.... Teeeem Orton .. Who owns the Chiefs ? onze onze....
ОтветитьSo you're saying I should open a sign shop.... in French of course....
ОтветитьTime for the big stores to pull out of Quebec the rest of Canada is tired of getting French forced down our throat. There is supposed to be all provinces treated equally
ОтветитьCanadian Tire = Canadian Pepe Le Pneu.
ОтветитьHEY QUEBEC!! YOU ARE NOT THE FRENCH OF THE WORLD...THERE IS STILL FRANCE...AND 15 OTHER COUNTRIES.
ОтветитьQuebec...the entitled teenager of Canada...yawn. I live on the boarder of Quebec and drive through the US to deliberately avoid going through Quebec. They have enough of my tax dollars.
ОтветитьIf it only applies to the store names on the building itself, then maybe switch to off building billboard signage.
ОтветитьYou should just withdraw from the Peoples Republic of Kanada and let all these businesses leave your country.
ОтветитьVive Le Québec libre
ОтветитьCanada is a joke
ОтветитьI had an interesting discussion with two RCAF members a few years ago. They were very vocal about the language issues and spent most of the time apologising for their French Canadian members who were arrogant to an extreme, because Aussies would not speak to them in French.
ОтветитьI could see them renaming their quebecs branches as "Pieres" or "Luigis" right next to the original signs which will stay.
Ответитьwho cares.....I won't ever be going there
ОтветитьQue...politicians have no vision...
ОтветитьQuebec is obsessed about French to the detriment of everything else. They have a rabid obsession. The fact that they have a language watch dog says it all. France is as bad, they have the same kind of rabid obsession.
ОтветитьQuebec is obsessed with themselves. Let them be themselves and let them secede from the Country and give up all federal benefits. It's only fair!
ОтветитьQuebecers are the type of people who'd go to 🇫🇷 France for vacation and still complain that France isn't French enough.
ОтветитьJust when You think that this World couldn't get any weirder.....THIS .
