Thank you so much for this. I'm a male software engineer and a professor teaching the subject at a university. We need more engineers regardless of nonsense like gender. As someone who's seen around 1000 students start their course and graduate after 3 years, there is on average no difference between the ability of male and female graduates. There are A+ men and A+ women, there are men who flunk and women who flunk. If you're considering a career in software engineering you should go for it, don't let historical gender differences in the workplace make your decision for you!

Women are less represented in CS because fewer of them choose to study CS. It's so simple. Everyone gets hired and paid based on how good they are. They are just less woman in this field by their choice.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAS! I'm a full-time Graphic Designer and I'm the only male who works in a women-owned technology business that's been successful for 35+ years (I also model on the side, but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I can't model for now. I now work at home and I'm more comfortable working in my robe and jammies lol). In addition, my mom was interested in working in the tech field, but she was scared and intimidated to do so, especially because the tech field is so male-dominated. I taught her the computer basics and she picked up on it quickly (she's a fast learner and a quick study lol). She also took advanced computer courses (coding, website/graphic design, computer networks, computer/software engineering). Within 9 months, she got her Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and secured a full-time job as a Software Developer, which she loved so much, and was making an excellent salary ($110,000/year). She's retired and enjoying it. Ladies, there are so many opportunities in the tech field and we need more women in this field.
