I think Terry Pratchett's discworld novels are a great place to start when reading fantasy. They're hilarious. Just don't start with The Colour of Magic. It's his first but not his best in my opinion.
ОтветитьI read this really good fantasy book this year called Uprooted. I think you will like it.
ОтветитьSHATTER ME MY HEART 😍😍😍😍
ОтветитьI have been looking for a Vedio like this one❤
Ответитьmy first was shadow and bone
ОтветитьI came across your video after finishing the prison healer series. I actually LOVED it, particularly the last 2 books. I’m now keen to get into the genre more and seeing how many others you actually enjoyed more is making me excited. Thanks for sharing 😊
ОтветитьI started with ash princess series by laura sebastian as my first ya trilogy. So simply to read and understand and now i am into the 3rd book. The writing is simple and the characters are easy to follow. Magic system is also simple to understand. Great series
ОтветитьI keep trying to read fantasy but can’t get into any except from Percy Jackson (I’ve tried Harry Potter but can’t really I’m going to try again tho) I think I’ll try the folk of air tho
Ответитьi keep trying to read the shatter me series (i’ve tried like three times), but i can’t get past the first book. i love the plot and the story in the book but the writing is hard for me. i feel like she over details things past what i can comfortably read. i don’t know if that’s just me. im so sad i can’t get hooked to it ;-;.
ОтветитьThere is also a novela to the cruel prince called the lost sisters along with the spinoff you all a G with the stolen air and the prisoners throne coming in March 2024 the cruel prince the wicked king queen of nothing to laugh sisters stolen air all of them are such a good books I highly recommend all of them😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьThank you <3
ОтветитьTotally agree with you about starting with YA fantasy! The best way to go!
ОтветитьI bought a whole special addition Acotar set without even reading the first book yet so I am both excited and scared😂
ОтветитьI started reading books…I mean I became fond of reading them a less than an year ago and do you know what I have read by now? - Folk of the air trilogy and Six of Crows duology… and I think I shouldn’t have started from top tier ones because now everyone is recommending these that I have already read :D
ОтветитьThank u❤
ОтветитьHi Rachel, that is such a great way to explain fantasy, It is my favorite genre too. I had just done a blog on this about how fantasy can really change your life if we open ourselves into our imagination. If you wish to read and review another book I am just about to publish my first cozy family fantasy, Mac MacNeil & the Secrets of the Amulet. Please let me know if it sounds like something you wish to read, i would be so honored. Much Love :-) xx
ОтветитьMy first fantasy series was the curse breaker, and it still one of my favorites so far!
ОтветитьMy first was the folk of air trilogy, and now I am hooked ❤
ОтветитьWhen i was young I always thought “Fae” and “Faeries” were “Fairies” as in like tinkerbell or the tooth fairy. But then I realised the Fae are much more badass then that. (Think Aelin/Rhys….)
ОтветитьI HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU TO READ THE CRESCENT CITY !!! Your expectations from sjm willl just be increased and your mind will be blownn after reading it istg.
ОтветитьAll 3 of the series you just mentioned the shadow and bone the six of crows series and acotar series were all great series my most favorite was the acotar series amazing series a complete fae series
ОтветитьI love love love the Crave series by Tracy Wolff!!
ОтветитьI read the first book of ACOTAR series and I found it so hard to understand/read. It was my first fantasy read and I really struggled! I recently started reading the 2nd book because I really want to like the series but I’m still finding it hard to understand 😢 I think I’m going to try Cruel Prince, as you said Rach, it’s YA so it’ll be easier to read/understand. I really want to like fantasy but I just don’t know if I can read it, maybe it’s not for me 😆😂
ОтветитьI totally agree with the Six of Crows duo-logy is so much better! But i think that you should read Shadow and Bone, especially if you plan on reading the King of Scars duo-logy. A lot of the same characters and themes cross over in each series. ❤
ОтветитьYes! I would definitely recommend Shadow and Bone and the other Grishaverse books for fantasy beginners for the reasons you mentioned. The world building is so good and I love all the characters and intertwining details. I'd also reccomend the Lunar Chronicles as well, since they loosely are based on well-known fairytales whilst integrating both sci-fi and fantasy together. The romance in it and the friendships are also so good, and I just love the characters and world building so much. It's really easy access as well from libraries and book stores. An Ember in the Ashes and A Darker Shade of Magic are also super well written (although these series are probably are bit more complex, especially with ADSOM leaning more towards adult fantasy over YA).
ОтветитьPlease read the all souls trilogy, it's such a great fantasy series! I'd love to see if you give it 5 stars
ОтветитьI highly recommend the Violet Eden Chapters. They are YA books written by an Aussie author and they truely are my comfort series. The world isn’t too complicated and the found family aspect is amazing. I have read the whole series about 8 times 😅. The first book is called Embrace by Jessica Shirvington.
ОтветитьI have been tempted to try out fantasy and this video has definitely inspired me!
ОтветитьExcellent video!
ОтветитьYou need to read the Trylle series!!!! One of the first fantasy series I read and LOVED IT. Doesn’t include the fae but still has that sort of plot. LOVED IT
ОтветитьBoth Legendborn and Bloodmarked are both so good!
ОтветитьIf u like a good trilogy about Fae u should read Chanda Hahn’s The Silver Siren, The Steel Wold, and The Iron Butterfly.
CJ Archer’s Ministry of Curiosities is really good as well.
I really enjoyed all of these and could not stop reading!
I really recommend The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen if you want an amazing adult fantasy with the perfect balance of romance and fantasy too!!
ОтветитьI've recently picked up Cursed by Marissa Meyer and I would highly recommend it, it's a Rumpelstiltskin retelling and it's so so good. Her Lunar Chronicles series is also amazing, shes very good at fairytale retellings!!
ОтветитьI would also recommend the villains series by Ve Schwab (Vicious and vengeful) it’s the first and only fantasy books I’ve read but it’s such a good “intro” to fantasy:)
ОтветитьI. AM SHOOK. i just decided like yesterday / the day before i wanted to start reading fantasy so I looked to see if you had any videos and I didn't see anything specific and now this 😍
Ответитьit's so weird for me to have an adult that never read fantasy! I guess, as a good millenial, i grew up with Harry Potter and fantasy was the core of my childhood! So maybe i can understand that for younger generations
ОтветитьI'm on the 3rd book of the Crave series by Tracy Wolff. I'm not sure if it's considered fantasy but it takes place at a school for vampires, dragons, wolves, etc. They're long books but I've been sucked in!
ОтветитьI just finished the folk of the air series about 4 weeks ago and had never read a fantasy before and I literally could not get enough of it. I wish the series was ten books. Normally I get bored of a series by the third book but I just couldn't get enough of this world and characters. They were great! Now I am currently reading the poppy war! I also have purchased the first three books of ACOTAR but have not yet started it!
ОтветитьI love how you express yourself about fantasy books, and I'm so happy you have found the escapism we all crave for when we read it!
ОтветитьThank you very much :)
ОтветитьYou did such an amazing job of explaining fantasy for beginners!
ОтветитьI literally decided this week that I want to dip my toe back in to the fantasy world after insisting I'm "not a fantasy girlie" for so long (basically have felt like I wasn't a fantasy person even though I read HP, Twilight, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson growing up)
Ответить50 fantasy books this year?! That's wild! Folk of the Air is totally a good starting point for fantasy. I just finished those this summer and loved them.
Also, YES to being okay with being confused. The best fantasy books weave the world-building into the story instead of just outright explaining everything about the world and slowing down the plot.
Totally agree on the Six of Crows duology. I didn't even know about Shadow and Bone before I read the books, and I loved them. Then, I started reading Shadow and Bone after, and so far, I have not liked it nearly as much.
ОтветитьI WAS LITERALLY SEARCHING FOR RECOS LAST NIGHT TYSM
ОтветитьHey RC, do you think you’re transitioning into more of a booktube now? Miss your vlogs xoxo
ОтветитьRachel is out here doing the Lord’s work
ОтветитьExcited for a end of year wrap up and Christmas book haul 🤩
ОтветитьSo many books to add to my Goodreads TBR now, so thank you for that 😅
You should read the ‘Delirium’ series by Lauren Oliver - I think you would like it a lot. It is not so much fantasy but dystopian and one of the best series I have ever read. Would love to hear your opinions on it :)
