This symphony starts with what sounds like and ending theme.

Very nice indeed. Performance version does not include the added final coda which Prokofiev added basically under pressure to do so. Prokofiev preferred the version in this performance.

It's perfect. I don't have words than describe how I feel when I listen to Prokofiev and the Orquest, but Val Gergiev give me something more, the dance with their hands, the direction to all Orquest's people with their eyes. I'm glad and I'm lucky to stay alive and can listen this. Thank you. ✨🌠 I really know that someday I will go to listen a Orquest in real life😊✨

The second movement is truly a great symphonic waltz that could stand on its own. Couples circling around the floor, skirts swaying, freezing cold outside.

At IU in 79 I took part in an impromptu conversation/lecture in the giant circular music building on campus in Bloomington "presided over" by a member of the composition faculty. I wasn't even a student but that year I was always there to cop pianos to practice so I was thought to be. I will always listen this Brahms of the 20th century differently due to that experience.

I do believe that he took out a chunk of the work towards the very end, I had not seen this performance until this very day (Aug.4, 2022). Not because of the recent world events but I think I do prefer Ted (Theodor) Kuchar's performance with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine on NAXOS. Gergiev' s performance was splendid but he just mutilated the finale, right here in our face, I truly wish he had not done that. Another wonderful recording of this symphony is again the LSO, under Walter Weller.

If only Prokofiev hadn't died the same day as Stalin! Imagine if he had lived on until his 70's or even his 80's. Hope the finale has something happening or the slow mov?Could he ever have written anything better than sonatas 6,7,8,9 for piano and those 2 glorious violin concerti.The cello concerto has not grabbed me yet nor really any of these symphonies . Both of these themes make little impression though they are both simple . Feels like Walton gone to Moscow and it's so cold he can't move .This is asclose to later style Hollywood filmmusic as he gets ;Korngold it ain't thankfully but neither is it unforgettable Alexander Nevsky. Let's go hear his early opera Ugly Duckling !OctCantata is compelling.

Le talent immense de Valéry Gergiev n'est plus à démontrer tout comme l'excellence de l'Orchestre Symphonique de Londres. Je veux surtout souligner le travail exceptionnel des techniciens qui ont capté ce concert. Je ne sais pas combien ils étaient ni qui a fait le montage et la synchro mais tout est absolument juste, parfait, à la hauteur de la partition et rend justice aux instrumentistes. Brillant et Bravo

1st movement; sad/hopeful/mysterious to me all at once. 2nd; like a fast gypsy/circus theme. 3rd; is like love lost. Melancholic. I love that the 4th movement wraps things up w/previous themes and a trimphant finale!
