Just saw this. Great. What I like the most is that you kept doing it again, again, again …. Yeah that’s what’s needed. So often us amateurs just try it once and give up. Doing many laps on a challenging run is what it takes to get better.

Them sound like some crusty hard moguls. I tried hitting the mogul course at Mt Hood last summer at the end of the day after not having skied in two years. Big mistake. Legs couldn't take and I had a full on blow out half way down. Definitely something that needs to be practiced till you get the agility and flexibility needed to ski a proper zipper line. Of course getting the pressure and rotary movement right on icy bumps is always going to be a challenge. And this is exactly what you do. Ski the same bump run over and over until you find a good line and it starts clicking.

Felt this in my quads!! LOL At 60 (and no where near the caliber of skier that you are) this is how I still do everything (trail running, mtb, skiing), and it always earns me a "Leg Check" text from my daughter(24) the next morning. She and I have been playing, "Who's faster than the 50 year old?" for a decade. I will absolutely wreck myself... because I still can. You would be an absolute hoot to ski with!

Awesome POV, and I love your stubborn determination. Never give up...Never give in!

Been doing these too, but controlling the speed by turning early and skiing the downside of each mogal, It works to maintain control and not get kicked off-balance.

I am getting back to skiing in the bumps after many years of less than 10 days on the skis per season. Now 66 with my winters off and a fresh ski bum lifestyle I am getting my game back! As I reacquaint myself to moguls I am focused on proper technique and keeping my speed down. For me being able to stop and regroup at any point of my bump run or bailing out to the groomer is best. My knees are crying a bit but it feels great to find that old rhythm!!

@scottmorrison7177 - 16.01.2024 07:06

Definitely inspiring Deb! Love that the sound of your skis tells me that your rhythm got faster as you went down the hill, that happens to me too when I am unable to keep my speed in check. I must say that I've NEVER seen such a consistent, well shaped, mogul field here in Oregon - that would certainly help to have something that "groomed" to practice on! How do they create those?

It's been a long time since I've even tried them but I was done just watching your first run! LOL! However I can finally say I made several carving runs on easy slopes (speed is still a little intimidating) & it's as amazing as I imagined. Skiing is a work out but come give surfing a try sometime! LOL! Thanks Deb! Always an inspiration!

Moguls are tough to learn. Require a lot of patience. Require to UNLEARN carving. Absorption can only be learned going very very slowly. Proper absorption followed by extending skis away laterally on downside = speed control. As soon as edges engage speed picks up FAST. Olympians are a special breed. Icy moguls are the worst next to deep icy moguls :D Love soft spring moguls! Easy to fold at the waist and hurt back!

One thing to notice is that her tips stay on the snow, they rarely are in the air. That means she’s constantly moving forward on her skis. If you want to be better in bumps, keep the tips on the snow!

This is my favorite video I've seen you put out! It ain't easy and I love your commentary. I think you were just trying to turn too much, going too slow and not letting your knees go up and down. It's way easier on softer snow than ice, as well. You go girl!!!... at any age! Love.

This was wonderful. You are a masterful skier. Many of the previously posted comments mirror my own thoughts - the POV, the technique, sounds, your determination. An entertaining and informative video.I love the bumps, mainly for the challenge. I will say I am likely the odd person out in the way I ski them… on Line (before K2) Sick Day skis. Why? It took me many years to understand that stiff skis were my nemesis, constantly pushing me into the backseat. One can’t ski bumps from there. I can drive a softer ski. Whatever works to have fun. BTW - those would be powder bumps here in the NE…

You said it, you're trying to slalom ski the bumps causing you to keep picking up speed until you're ejected instead of pivot slipping (both skis acting as one) and pre-absorbing them to control your speed.
You know you can also ski the back side of them as well, you don't have to ski the zipper.
