I’m more afraid of chimpanzees compared to gorillas. Chimp attacks scared the living crap out of me.

If we consider the entirety of their place in the world vs ours,, theirs is more important to the sustainability of it.

Look, my damn cat is smart enough to know a good number of words, and I know this. My friends' Collie is even more crazy smart and knows TONS of them. You can't tell me that the gorilla raised from birth with a human adoptive mother wouldn't be able to communicate, it's patently absurd to believe otherwise to anyone who's ever had a few cats or dogs (or birds!) who are obviously not as intelligent as a primate.

P.S. - I've raised several cats and they are all smart enough to know themselves in the mirror. The ones that don't freak out when they see their own reflection.

😮 I think Coco has proven the point why keep pudding harmless creatures like gorillas in zoos in cages when they clearly have shown you did they have human-like feelings lead them in their environments and do everything you can to protect them by law as a black man it wasn't long ago some people thought that we were just like apes wasn't smart enough to exist on our own😢

Are you still looking for the missing link? Look into the Ancient Alien Theory. It makes more sense than evolution from apes and creation. We are part ape and extra terrestrial through experimentation. There is the link for you. You're welcome.

Koko was signing the English language on a daily basis. Consider how difficult that is. Like, how difficult is it for humans to learn another language? Pretty challenging, right? How many of us are bilingual or multilingual? I'm only fluent in English. I can speak some Spanish, French, Swedish, Norwegian, German, Japanese, and Mandarin/Chinese, but it's really really hard to become fluent. It's tough to even reach the point of being conversational. NOW... imagine trying to learn to speak/sign/gesture dolphin, or whale, or dog, or cat, or mouse, or owl, or gorilla. And not JUST mimicking, but understanding what the sounds mean, and how putting them with other sounds/words/gestures might impact their context. That's what Koko was doing. She learned the language of another species much better than we have ever been able to translate barks, for example. Dolphins can echolocate and send click messages across miles to call each other, or warn of danger, or to invite others to a new location, and we have barely scratched the surface on how they do that. We haven't decoded or translated an animal language yet. We see/hear that they send messages and respond to each other accordingly, accurately, and with meaningful purpose, but we haven't memorized their words. If we did mimic them, it would be a lot more rudimentary than what Koko and other gorillas (chimps, apes, parrots) have been able to learn about us. Yet people are still so quick to dismiss and demean animal intelligence. When we can't even come close to doing what they can do. When Koko's trainer lost a family member and Koko found out, she signed compassionate words, sympathy, empathy, sadness. She was gently consoling. Koko loved her kitten Ball. When she lost Ball she told us, in English, that she was sad. Even if a person thinks she was just "mimicking," I'd say she managed to "mimic" the words AND proper emotions of another species pretty freaking accurately. And it wasn't just for personal gain or treats. There's not much for a Gorilla to gain by grieving, other than it being a healthy way to cope with loss. Humans aren't necessarily superior.

I really wish people would stop thinking animals don’t have a soul a conscience a personality
Feelings, emotions, animals protect their owners they protect the young they protect their pack. Animals are intuitive. Animals are loving animals, like to play. Animals mourn when they lose a baby God, dammit animals have common sense. Some animals are smarter than we are in many ways. Birds, a lot of animals have navigation built right into them. I wish people would stop underestimating the intelligence of animals they may not be like us, but they’re different. They are stronger than us in many ways, and they are weaker than us and someways just as we are stronger and weaker than them in someways. God doesn’t create anything that’s stupid everything has feelings everything comes from the same source of consciousness as we do, I wish people would stop thinking animals don’t have rights they should have the same rights as we do nothing should be caged or tested on or used for food that is alive. has blood running through his veins, and feels.

Animals absolutely have feelings and thoughts. Humans generally underestimate how intelligent animals are because we measure their behaviors against our own that we feel reflect speech. However, the story of Koko speaking with sign language has been proven to be totally faked by her handlers. There is no animal that is or has ever been able to form coherent, independent ideas and communicate them through any form of human "speech." Every example of this is either trained responses to rewards, or misinterpretation and/or misinformation provided by researchers. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. There is evidence that some animals can communicate complex information among their own kind, such as as Corvids that "spread the word" among their population about a person that has been threatening to one or more of their kind. This has resulted in aggressive behavior toward a specific person from all birds of that population for miles.

I think it's important to understand that person and people does not necessarily mean human or humans...We are all animals. Gorillas and Orangutans may very well be people too, just not yet capable of the things humans can learn and do. Other animals as well might very well be capable of being called a person, some argue that corvids (Ravens, Crows, Mapgpies, Bluejays) might also be on the spectrum of self awareness and consciousness, they certainly show the ability to develop some rudimentary communication, relationships and puzzle solving ability.
