Yes, I know this. But I still can't start a painting because I Know it won't look like I want it to look and I will get frustrated. I know I have to do bad art to get good but I can't handle it. My boyfriend tells me I am too much of a perfectionist but how can I be a perfectionist if I don't even start lol

This isn't just good advice for beginners, it's good advice for more advanced artists as well, (Keep experimenting, keep learning new things). Another super video!

That talent crap is something I hear my whole life and to be honest it pisses me off. It's nothing I got as a gift, I'm working for it. Thousands and thousands of hours, so yeah, I expect to be good at it!
All the time I hear "oh, I never could do that" - Ok, how many pictures did you draw in your life?
I mean where you able to run, ride a bike and climb a tree the moment you where born? No? So you've got no talent for these stuff.
Drawing is like everything else, hard work, the talent part is the will to put the work into it and the love for it - anything else is a skill you can learn, like riding a bike.

Secondly I have a question, I’ve done a few paintings some good, some bad and some really ugly too 😆 I’ve started painting after a while again and doing it on Acrylic sheets from a canvas pad. I feel the paint doesn’t blend properly. Should I ditch the pad for now?

I always try to challenge myself when I want to. I'm not much into drawing humans but the school requires me to. I know how to draw humans, but it's not as good as the others and I don't care about it very much. I mostly draw animals and cartoonish creatures.

Edit: take lessons from Stephen Ross. Buying anything with Bob's name on it, goes right to the Kowalski bank account.

Pro tip - If you have a spouse telling you you'll never succeed, get a new spouse. The bare minimum you should demand is support. You're delusional if you think the spouse is not also sabotaging you in other ways as well. . .

Him randomly slapping the band-aid on your head and failing at being a vet and doctor but still cocky at being gifted. Lol I can't. I'm proud of Matt for braving the camera these days. These are good tips for pushing yourself to the next level of your art, if you're NOT a beginner too. Not settling, always progressing.

I would actually encourage people who say they want to do art, to make bad art, if it means they're doing art at all. You can't kill anyone by making a mistake in painting, unlike a certain other profession. On the other hand, if someone who does have a desire to paint or draw can find themselves struggling to get to the easel, I think the chances of someone without it, say, someone who was pressured by someone else, putting in the hours to get good, are pretty slim.

Great video and great tips. I think experimentation is the most important part of learning. I always painted in the Impressionistic style with a pallet knife. I kept telling myself that this was my style and so I never tried anything else. But last year I found your channel and I saw how easy and how fun it is to paint realistic. Now I can paint paintings I couldn’t even imagine two years ago. But if I wouldn't try to paint realistic, I would never realized how fun it is.
