I've never had a Les Paul Junior before. I've seen them, but never really fallen in love with one. This one caught my eye and I decided to grab it before someone else did.
It's no secret that I'm a fan of Mod Shop guitars. This one's appearance spoke to me. The Gibson Deluxe tuners with the Keystone buttons, the pearloid multilayer pickguard, matching pearloid backplate and cream P-90 cover. It worked together enough to get me to hit the "buy" button.
The neck is chunky, but not baseball bat chunky. It's comfortable. Gibson lists it as a "Vintage '50s" neck profile, and I believe that, having had a '50s Standard that felt similar, but slimmer. I kinda feel like this one is more closer in shape to the R8's profile, but with less depth.
Having only one pickup really does make you use the tone and volume control more. And, in that regard, it makes you a better player. After the end of the video, I spent a little more time with this one playing songs that I have been playing since the '90s. Using the two control knobs, I was able to get sounds that I had never even tried to get out of a bridge pickup. It was fun. I can see the allure now. I highly recommend getting a single pickup guitar after spending some time with this one.
Anyway, check out the video and see what you think. Let us know in the comments if you think this is one you would pick up or pass on.
Enjoy!
