I'm 39 years old and I was told I have to have my hip replaced but I have to lose weight because of the risk of infection is high I'm scared and I'm tired of being in pain

I was 5 weeks post op yesterday and I feel great. I'd had the injury since the age of 36 but kept being told I was too young to have a hip replacement (but not too young to live with constant, growing agony for 24 years!). I turned 60 in July & was lucky enough to get a cancellation appointment in August. I went down the epidural route and I cannot recommend it highly enough. This is a fantastic little animation, which I will share to anyone who asks what op I have undergone. I walk with the use of a walking stick atm and managed 10, 233 steps on Wednesday, totally pain-free apart from a post-op achey thigh. Couldn't thank my surgeon more. He came to visit me after the procedure and said, "I could see as soon as I got in there why you'd been in agony for so long." Thanks to him and his team at the Freeman hospital, I'm agony free. ❤

Had mine replaced this month. My surgeon did the one incision from the front. 10 days out. Off the walker, using crutches but the pain is real! No Oxy, using just Tylenol

One thing I've always wandered is presuming a person, who has very active an healthy lifestyle, gets both hips replaced, will they be able to eventually continue it? Can they run or do gymnastics or lift weights?

All of this is long after the recovery period for the surgery of course.
