It wasn't like this. KLM climbed up to 150 meter in the air, after the crash, then loosing its power fell back to the runaway and exploded.

KLM had one survivor that stayed on the islands instead of reboarding with her two freinds, 583 deaths, 61 survivors. This was the deadliest aviation accident. KLM took off without permission, leaving everyone dead except for that one last survivor.

This is the most deadly plane crash ever, and the sad part is, my grandfather's best friend was on the flight coming home to the UK. He was devastated he told me. Now he is up in heaven with his friend. RIP.

Van Zanten, you murderer.

This animation is quite innacurate at the collision scene. The KLM 747 still went on further and slammed on the ground in a massive fireball which killed everyone. In this animation, the fuselage seems quite intact and slids off quite nicely. And also, the KLM main gears were torn off by the impact, instead of what was shown here.

The KLM pilots should have driven their plane off the runway to dodge the Pan am.They would still have crashed but at least the much more densely packed Pan am would have been spared.

• Failure of the KLM's copilot and F/E to speak up to the captain about his mistake
• Heavy fog
• KLM's strict rules making it that Van Zanten had to rush to takeoff
• Communication between ATC and Pilots with non-professional words
• Van Zanten misunderstood ATC's intentions

guys its not Van Zanten's fault, the comms had a failure thinking Van Zanten had clearence, and Van Zanten did not see 1736 to the fog, causing this crash.

Now I personally think that, the fault belongs to the air traffic control tower due to not providing clear taxi instructions to pan am and not providing clear takeoff instructions to klm. But I know there was probably fog scattered at high density which may have caused communication troubles between the two aircrafts and tower but there is always radar and mechanical devices / instruments in the ATC tower but also the fact that the pilots of klm did not attempt to slow down the aircraft because they were already on a high ground speed which happened to make them somehow think that taking off would be possible instead of slowing down the aircraft after realizing there is an appearance / occurrence of another aircraft on the runway. Proper instructions are always expected from control tower and pilots are expected to always follow the ATC orders. The tailstrike during klm's takeoff was the only major sign of take off failure.
