Is the tunnel concept not an option? Or..is it? It just seems to me that a tunnel would offset the problems a bridge would face, as well as being a proven technology. Im saying this without knowledge of the issues carving a tunnel in this particular case of course. Id like to see a comprehensive study on the pluses and minuses of both proposals. The project is facsinating.

You are incorrect that it would be the longest suspension bridge in the world. The Mackinaw Bridge connecting the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan is 5 miles long.

A no brainer to me, technically speaking but once again politics and corruption get in the way of progress. This project is probably too big for Italy to tackle without help from the EU or China😊!

Man made islands with shorter bridges and or tunnels instead to account for the geologic instability

Seikan Tunnel, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge, Pelješac Bridge, Channel Tunnel, Gotthard Base Tunnel, Donghai Bridge, Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Çanakkale Bridge. I am sure they can build the bridge in 20-30 years.

In Norway they are building a 50 billion floating highway instead of many bridges. The floating highway will replace x amount of ferries on west coast.
Norway is the first to do this and Italy and China plans to make this instead of bridges too.
