The border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (which is part of the United Kingdom) is pretty strange. There are people who have to cross the border to get to their mailbox or take their car out of the garage. It's confusing that Northern Ireland is often called "Ulster" despite the fact that two of Ulster's eight counties are located in the Republic of Ireland- not Northern Ireland. Also the northern most region of the island of Ireland is part of the Irish republic rather than Northern Ireland. Add to that the fact that people in Northern Ireland can choose to be citizens of the UK, the Irish Republic or both.
