Brilliant!
ОтветитьI sure wish that my ancestors weren't living in the colonies where metes and bounds were used. But this strategy is going to help a lot of folks. Great job Aimee!!
ОтветитьExcellent!
ОтветитьJust curious, is there a way to filter by collection? I find my full text searches find something from everything
ОтветитьI'm convinced some deeds were simply never even registered with the county. I even found some in my great uncle's collection of historical photos for people totally unrelated to that family. (This is my maternal grandmother's side.) These deeds do not exist in the county deed books. Also, none of these family members were witnesses, or mentioned anywhere. So, I don't know why my great great grandparents ended up with these deeds.
The more interesting thing is, one is related to my current project (which is on my dad's side), and I think that was the one in a transaction with another distant cousin on my mom's dad's side. So.... I am connected to this deed... but it isn't related at all the the folks who were holding it. 🤯 It is for property and folks in the same county.
This is all NC.
Thank you, Aimee! Lots of good tips in this video! 😊
ОтветитьBig help! Thank you!
ОтветитьI hope you informed them of the typo! :)
ОтветитьRead the description backwards. Instead of T, R, S, Alicots, read Slicots, Section, Range, Township.
ОтветитьI just wondered... My 3gg father in Oneida County, NY, is listed as paying land taxes in 1800 and owning 100 acres in the state census of 1825, But does not show up in land record indexes, I am looking in Herkimer land indexes, which covers both counties, it just seems weird the land records are not recorded... not in mortgages either... he was mentioned in a deed as a neighboring land owner, but no record of his own land... sounds weird to me... this is one of my brick wall ancestors... most neighbors came to NY from RI, so my idea is he's from RI too.
ОтветитьAwesome! This is very helpful for land search. I had no idea all those interesting maps were available in the GLO search. I need to go back and take a look at some records I already have from there.
