Sony should have called this lens the 35-40 zoom. The focus breathing on this lens is insane for a lens at this price point.

ОтветитьThanks for the review, it's a great lens
ОтветитьI know this is an old video, but does anyone know if this is still the best 35mm E-Mount lens in terms of sharpness and color?
ОтветитьI mean...both Undone and Ortiz are claiming sharpness. I can tell you from experience with the 24GM and 70-200GMii, this is probably as sharp as they say. GAS!!!!
ОтветитьHow does this 35gm fair against the 24gm based on optical performance alone? I'm aware 24GM is an old release, but would like to see your review for video on it. There are tons of reviews but not many that I trust. I value your input. Pls make one if you can
ОтветитьWhich one is better for filming at low light conditions??
Ответить',
ОтветитьToo clinical IMO
ОтветитьSony should come out with 24mm 1.2, 35mm 1.2 and 85mm 1.2 as these are the classic primes. Maybe even 20mm 1.2.
ОтветитьGerald, you said you filmed your previous film (Amaran review) with this lens. I watched that, and there wasn't even a hint of focus breathing. How did you do that? Mine's gasping like someone who's just finished a marathon. Did you fix focus manually, or remove breathing in post? I bought this over the 1.8 wanting the extra bokeh in a small filming space, and reassured by your Amaran review that it is possible to film a talking head without focus breathing.
ОтветитьWould you ever consider the Voigtlander 35mm f/2 APO for video? It looks to be just as sharp as the GM and is as small as the Sony 1.8. If you didn't care about AF, would there be any reason to choose a different lens over the Voigt? Or the Sigma 35 f/2 DG DN maybe?
ОтветитьWhat were all those shot on? A7iii?
ОтветитьHave g master 24-70 lens was thinking getting this 35 mm next but comments here are saying no sticking with my 24 lens now I know the 24 lens has better blur probably than my 24-70mm
Now I see some like 24-59 lens
but all you professional shooters are what would you go with for shooting video? What would be your next lens? I want a lens where I can go even closer and tighter and being super sharp focus and I wanted to be a G master lens.. Thanks
would you suggest this lens to fit two people in the same frame for video podcasting?
ОтветитьDoes anyone know if the new Sony a7IV helps with the focus breathing on this lens??
ОтветитьNice review.
ОтветитьWould this Sony 35mm f1.4 GM lens paired with the new A7IV and it's breathing compensation feature eliminate/minimize the focus breathing?
ОтветитьIs this better than the Sigma 40mm 1.4 Art image wise?
ОтветитьGreat video as usual but I have a question. Which one do you think is better for self recording cooking videos? Or having a camera person record you? I stuck in the middle and no one really speaks about lens for cooking videos. Thanks in advance if you see this
ОтветитьThanks !
Ответитьbahhh im on my wifes account... anyway, love your stuff. Ordered this lens off your affiliate link! Thanks man! LOVE WHAT YOU DO BRO!
ОтветитьOne lens choice on SONY A7C vs. SONY 24mm f/1.4 GM? Thank You
ОтветитьI think I've watched too many lens reviews. Now I can't make up my mind which wone to get. They're all flawed 😂 Iver 1400$ can't get you a perfect 35mm.
Ответить35mm 1.8 my choice
ОтветитьDoes the Sony 35 mm 1.8 have an aperture adjustment or is it fixed at 1.8? I didn’t see an adjustment ring on the lense.
ОтветитьI believe A7IV has focus breathing compensation with this lens so there’s dat
ОтветитьWould the 24 or the 35 be a better first prime lens? I need it to shoot talking heads and general street photography.
ОтветитьWish they had a 1.2
ОтветитьSo, if you primarily shoot videos you should pick the 1.8?
ОтветитьGerald: First of all, hello from a previous Canuck (Guelph, ON); now located in Durham North Carolina. A big thank you for the great informational videos you're putting out there.
I'd really like to see some comparisons between "identical" lenses, as with this Sony 35/1.4 that you're assessing in this video.
In the past I've incidentally come across apparent significant variations within the "same" lens; the only difference being the serial number. I didn't and don't have the time, equipment, nor the money, to start doing these type of comparisons but this might explain the occasional different results obtained between equipment reviewers such as yourself.
I'm patiently waiting for Sony to release the 50mmF1.4 GM.
Ответитьwould you recommend this prime lens to handle all around client work for my first couple gigs? I was also considering 24-70 mm gm but I fear It is way to heavy to walk around with a gimbal and feel the 20mm might be to wide and be more of a specific need lens thanks.
Ответитьreally appreciate the focus roll off test
ОтветитьI just re-entered the Sony ecosystem and am looking for my first e-mount full frame prime lens. If you were going to buy one lens - at least for now - would it be a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, other?
ОтветитьHow is it compared to the 35mm 1.4 Zeiss and Sigma DG DN?
Ответить35mm sony distagon are much better for film
ОтветитьI have the Sigma 35 1.2 and was thinking to replace that with the new 35GM due to weight and size, however, after shooting with the GM for a week I decided to stick with the Sigma 35 1.2, to my eyes the Bokeh produces by the Sigma is still better than the GM, and Bokeh quality is one main reason I am using the large aperture 35mm, i do a lot of environmental portrait with the 35mm, so for me the Sigma 35 1.2 wins.yes, it's that much better and I am willing to put up with the extra weight and size.
Ответить35 mm F1.8 is my video choice number one the manual focus ist the best linear fbw focus i have ever used. And i have a long History of lenses which i had owned xD
ОтветитьThanks Gerald for such detailed review, i am only shooting video and wondering does lens sharpness really affecting the video quality ? Consider 4K video has far lower resolution compared to photo shooting.
ОтветитьLOL, and I just bought the Tamron one, 35mm 2.8. Even the Sony 35mm 1.8 was to expensive for me. But I don’t use it for video that much, a lot more for stills
ОтветитьI couldn't find a review from Gerald for the 24mm GM. Does this mean you did not like it, or are there other reasons why it doesnt seem to have a review published? Apologies if it is there and I just missed it.
Ответитьty for the info-my order is placed!!
ОтветитьMan, your breakdowns and comparisons have been invaluable. I’ve had a hell of time with my zeiss 35mm f1.4 breathing and focusing in general, regardless of the focus mode (although wide seems to do better than center). Shooting slog2 in a woodshop offers little contrast so I can make some of this up with light, but I can’t tell if it’s me and my settings or the lens. Any insight on that lens vs the f1.8 and GM in your experience would be very much appreciated. Thanks! 🤙
ОтветитьLove this comparison video. So well done. So interesting. Fantastic, well put together.
ОтветитьIs it just me or does this guy look like Chris Pratt XD, awesome video nonetheless... very helpful
Ответить🥕
ОтветитьHmmm.... i like the lens but i feel like the breathing would bother me. Im currently using the sony 20mm f1.8 with the 1.5 sensor crop turned on. But the focus breathing bothers me when editing.
