When I built my IKEA drawers for my kallex unit, I glued the hell out of them and they've held up. But I'm not traveling all over with them. To keep them in place while driving, install baby locks. I have the baskets too. They are acceptable.
ОтветитьGreat video. If you had it to do over, would you make them all hinge doors and just put bins inside (vs draws? Thx! : ).
ОтветитьGreat idea
ОтветитьAwesome. Did you make your stopper ropes by yourself? How do we make it? Thanks
ОтветитьLove it! Great video!
ОтветитьDon't understand the mobile library bit. Digital books and audiobooks make more sense. Books are heavy, absorb moisture and breed mold.
ОтветитьGot it. Saw the other Video. Thanks a bunch. Happy holidays 🎄🎅🎊
ОтветитьI would love a living room look in my van, but how did you fit that over the wheel well?
ОтветитьJust came across this video. I like this cabinet idea. I've put furniture like this together for an apartment. One idea I'd add is that for a van/rv, I'd also use construction glue like liquid nails while putting them together and get adhesive to fix the drawer trim as time goes on. thank you for a great video.
ОтветитьAlways use glue and screws 👍😁
ОтветитьBest to avoid compressed wood at all costs.
Long run, cheap quality = expensive.
How did you anchor the cabinets to the wall of the van?
ОтветитьSo if you want to have those furniture’s with a Continuous movement and vibration you might want to use carpenters glue it will be very good
ОтветитьGlue the drawers & dowels
ОтветитьYou can have a piece of Formica cut to fit on top of your cabinets for longer wear. Just glue it on. Can buy from Home Depot.
ОтветитьHow much does the unit weight?
ОтветитьL. Ron hubbard??? Sucker!
ОтветитьMaybe you could use some good looking bins or replace the drawers with the cabinet doors. It would cost some $, but it would make you happier in the long run.
ОтветитьAnything IKEA that requires wood doweling automatically gets my application of wood glue before assembly. All assembly joint movement needs to be prevented, otherwise the item will progressively loosen until ultimate failure. Something else may need to be substituted, however, since these items are exposed to such variations of temperature and humidity.
Ответитьjesus fucking christ. PLEASE flea scientology if you're in it
ОтветитьGet yourself a Kindle and sell off your books. You can even download your Bible my friend
ОтветитьIs there space at the back side of your drawers to put one of those catches like you have on the door? I saw a guy who's Van was built with that from get go because he thought of it 1st. It keeps is drawers tucked in.
ОтветитьI probably would have wood glued them when I put them together knowing I was gonna be vibratin' on the road
ОтветитьI think you could put some polyurethane on the wood cabinet . It works good and protects the wood from the water.
ОтветитьHow much do they weigh?
ОтветитьGet you a tube of Flex glue it is a wonder. Make sure you want it where you have it.
ОтветитьI have these exact same units in my apartment and plan on moving them into the van, I have the baskets and will bungee for travel!!! You’re the first build I’ve seen with them, good to know the cabinet itself has stood the test of time!!! Thanks.
ОтветитьDrawers that shallow just aren't necessary - just use the compartments as reach-in boxes, maybe with a bungee net on the bottom half.
ОтветитьOne-way you can use to close your drawers if you cannot utilize the same latch system that you have on the cabinets what to get child safety locks. The simplest one out there runs about a dollar each. Yes they are made out of plastic but if they were to break it would be easily replaced.
ОтветитьDid you have to cut the base as well as some of the vertical dividers to fit it around the wheel well? If so, do you remember how much of the base you cut in? I think the wheel wells are around 12"-13" high and since the wall slopes inward as it goes up, I'm thinking you had to cut in 4" or so? Sound about right? I'm thinking about doing this as well. Although IKEA does not sell the birch Kallax anymore it seems. Neither online or in the stores, checked it out yesterday locally.
Ответитьreinforce with L brackets
ОтветитьIsn't worth the time for me. If I'm going to go to the trouble to build something,, it'll be out of wood. Real wood, not particle board wrapped in plastic. Same goes for my home. The few things that came into my home from IKEA didn't last long. I replaced them with wood from trees, not sawdust glued together. Whatever floats your boat
ОтветитьThe OCD in me really wants them catches to be straight....arrgghh! But....if it works it doesn't matter I guess. (I'm a cabinet maker).
ОтветитьI have had the same issue with the drawers not holding together in a house so all the movement in a van is bound to make it worse. I should have glued them together when I set it up too.
ОтветитьIKEA furniture is nothing but trash
ОтветитьI appreciate the quest to find store bought flat pack for camper van use however in my experience nothing I have ever came across would be long lasting, I prefer to build myself from quality materials that will give many years of trouble free service, it takes time patience and skill but the end result is worth it plus I won't have to come back to it countless times for repairs. Good job though.
ОтветитьThanks love your videos!
ОтветитьI bought the same Shelf for My Van conversation, have yet to put it in, I noticed this is where your wheel well should be correct?? Did you have to cut a section out so it would properly fit?
ОтветитьA couple of L shaped metal brackets on the inside of each drawer will solve the problem of the fronts coming off. A bit of flexible glue would help too. Looks a good budget idea though.
ОтветитьThanks for the glue tip. Great video.
Ответитьnice and tidy
ОтветитьYou should get the drawers replaced under warranty.
ОтветитьJust a thought, you should try to drill some holes through the top suffice down into the front of the drawer so you could secure the drawers with grande pins. That way they won't fly open randomly.
ОтветитьAh that figures. Ill get the doors instead. Thanks i love looking at stuff in ikea
ОтветитьHey. Question: How many miles were put on the van while the Ikea furniture has been installed?
Ответитьdo you think it would hold up better with wood adhesive on all the joints?
Ответитьi love ikea furniture
ОтветитьI'm really curious about your Delta ball cap. Could you please elaborate? Cheers
