The V-42 Stiletto was issued during World War II to the First Special Service Force -- a joint American/Canadian commando unit. Based on the renowned Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife designed by William E Fairbairn and Eric A Sykes, the Fighting Commando Knife Type V-42 was primarily designed by officers of the FSSF who desired a close-quarters combat knife. The narrower V-42 stiletto was designed to optimize penetration on thrusting. The original V-42 was manufactured in the US by W.R. Case & Son’s Cutlery Co.
The blade is hand ground from Bjorkmans Twist pattern stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. This high performing damascus is created using powder metallurgical steel manufacturing to provide excellent edge retention and unmatched beauty. The blade is perfectly ground. Daggers are among the hardest knives to grind -- any flaw in symmetry becomes immediately noticeable. Willie's touchmark and his ant logo are inlayed with 24k gold on the ricasso.
Like the original, the contoured handle is stacked leather. The pommel and guard are gun blued mild steel. 24k gold stars are inlaid into both the pommel and guard. This dress version of the V-42 pays homage to this famous combat knife.
To keep the knife close at hand, a brown leather custom sheath with retention snap is included.
Excellent work throughout!
