Back in the day I would stand where the beams are at the finish line then they were going 220mph. I can't imagine doing that today where 340mph is around the corner. 🤯
220 was brutal enough, you could feel the heat and the concussion wave that would slam your body. If you didn't open your mouth to equalize the pressure and have good hearing protection it would certainly blow your eardrum s out of your skull.

Lived near Ravenswood raceway, back when was a kid, we were about 10km away, on those hot summer nights, the top fuellers and funnies lit up the sky in the evening with the most guttural roar for mere seconds echoing across the land. What a place to live, what an amazing memory I have to this day, I car still hear it in my ears and my heart.

I'm impressed by the guys standing no more that 8-10 feet away from the lauch of these monsters seemingly without hearing protection (small foam plugs at the best or maybe "finger in the ear"). I bet we are talking 150-153 decibels.... (hell , even more - I see NHRA says 150dB at 50 feet... )
