I first heard Bach's Goldberg Variations when I first met my wife at her mosaic studio in 2004. I couldn't stop listening to it. I was addicted myself to listening to the Brandenburg Concertos endlessly in the 1970s. I'm a classical guitarist and devoted a great amount of time playing transcribed Bach pieces. I now teach and write a piano sight-reading method with much appreciation to Glenn Gould and his heart-felt inspiration. Greetings to all from Adelaide, South Australia.

saw Evgeny Kissin the other day at Kennedy- he is playing kind of hunched over now with his elbows seemingly below the keyboard...noticed he had increased left hand clarity and articulation vs what I have heard of his before, at least live. maybe there is something to this playing style lol

Gould plays it like no other!

Brilliant performance. Introspective. Gould playing Bach is the standard by which other pianists strive to meet .

Glenn Gould was a composer in his interpretations which drives originalists like Seymour Bernstein nuts.

I heard the Aria of this beautiful piece for the first time, played by Mrs. Ines Grandella, my Music History teacher. I was arriving late to her class. In fact she was already playing when I arrived. It was so moving. To me the beauty of this piece lies on the solemnity and calmness of itself and the memory of the superb delicacy at the interpretation by my teacher. Listening it again, transports me to that cold Monday morning at the 10th floor of the Conservatory of Music in Chile. Greetings and thank you for sharing.

I came across this whisper from Heaven during Hannibal's escape at the terminus of The Silence of the Lambs, as it's the soundtrack he has to set the mood while he cuts off Sgt. Pembry's face, when he can see that unimaginably horrific act will reward him with his freedom, as well as pay homage to the Red Dragon. "Ready when you are...."

I feel like it is played especially for me, as it was said to me. This is a perfect Gould's skill.

this was really right before his death...one wonders if he knew somehow that he was nearing the end...this was one last opportunity to give, to really say something, before he left. A magnificent recording. RIP

Oh, how I would love to see a video recording of his 1955 interpretation. Wishful thinking, of course, but just imagine it! Perhaps in another life?

This is magical, though. Only a Glenn Gould could - or would possess the self-confidence to - completely reappraise a piece like the 'Goldberg Variations' and, for the second time in his career, put his individual stamp on it, especially given the 'benchmark' status of his original recording.
