ОтветитьI think listening to this group as a child motivated me to learn the guitar.
ОтветитьTalk about bringing back memories from my childhood.
ОтветитьDoes anyone remember "Thank You For Smoking"?
ОтветитьWondering why the images feature Dave Guard, when he had left the Trio by this time, and John Stewart was the 3rd member. Never mind - when I saw the Trio during their farewell tour (I have the album, but don't recall the title), they had great fun with this song, cracking up all the way through. One example I remember is that the last time they sang, "the only things that I understand, poor boy," it was instead, "the only things that I understand, Pooh Bear."
ОтветитьGreat song by one of the most influential bands in American music history. However, the video primarily features photos of the Dave Guard version of the Trio and "Greenback Dollar" features the John Stewart version along with Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds.

ОтветитьThis gives you a great big kick up the arse!
ОтветитьActor Paul Gross mentioned this song in an episode of Tales of the City miniseries in the early '90s, saying that his father, "Really didn't give a damn about a greenback dollar."
ОтветитьSome people say I'm a no-'count
Others say I'm no good
But I'm just a natural-born travelin' man
Doin' what I think I should, oh yeah
Doin' what I think I should
And I don't give a damn about a greenback dollar
Spend it fast as I can
For a wailin' song and a good guitar
The only things that I understand, poor boy
The only things that I understand
Well I imagine dragons Jacob Rees-Mogg does think I am a no count. Constititutional Unwise? Idiot Son in Law of a chair
Heard this song from a group of animatronic cowboys at Wall Drug in South Dakota.
ОтветитьThank You For Smoking brought me here. Such a fitting song to end a great movie. It's a nice coincidence that the lead in the movie is also named Nick.
ОтветитьGreat to just listen again...and again...and again.
Ответитьbest song
ОтветитьIn 1979 I was in San Francisco, I think somewhere around Market and there was a musician playing this song in a bar. I payed him for playing it again and again. And I was the lonlyest person on our planet- I will never forget this sadness, this loneliness.
ОтветитьI don't give a damn about a Greenback a Dollar and now I'm homeless..
ОтветитьIs it true this song caused upset because of the word "damn"? No big deal nowadays, especially when words slightly more offensive than "damn" are said.
ОтветитьMy dad loves this song
ОтветитьDoes anyone know who sang the solos? I think the 2nd one is Bob Shane.
ОтветитьSo glad I came across this
ОтветитьNice song
ОтветитьWhen this came out the local radio stations would bleep out the word “damn” so I never heard the entire song til years later.
ОтветитьThe day my grandpa died was the day i first heard this song i was biking to school on a sunny september vancouver morning, miss gramp you were the best
Ответить2022 🔥 and still hits
ОтветитьThese guys are very cool
Ответить"돈만이 제일이 아니라던" 私歌가 생각나서 검색해 듣고갑니다
ОтветитьThis song has soo much energy. It also bizarrely reminds me of the giligans island them song. Lol
ОтветитьHypocrites never been homeless and are millionaires
ОтветитьThe radio stations banned this song.
ОтветитьSong was ahead of its time. Plenty of songs in the 70's and 80's, etc. handed a similar groove and construction.
ОтветитьThis is just the best
ОтветитьVery poor recording. Playing the LP, can easily hear the recording studio walls. Nothing with this recording.
ОтветитьI know that "damn" isn't quite as strong a word in media these days, but it was back then not only because it was considered mildly offensive (though it was not an uncommon word in common, everyday speak), it was the way they sang it--this was an ANGRY "damn". The original by Hoyt Axton was even angrier, probably to the point of not being commercially viable at the time, but the Kingston Trio were the ultimate interpreters of folk songs in their day, and they did it good justice by not only not censoring it, they kept the attitude and it feels damn authentic.
ОтветитьGreat song
ОтветитьIm 19 and Discovered them As a song at the end of the movie Which I don't remember. Instantly search for this song. And I'm so grateful I found it.
What a great song These days everything just seems so Dead
The 1900s till 2000s Just had a certain magic to them That I think got lost in modern times.
One, two and three...
ОтветитьI got us the gig at the Elks Club Founders Dinner!
ОтветитьLearned harmony listening to these guys -- we had about 25 of their albums. My Dad would bring one home every so often. They were the sound of my childhood in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Awesome sound.

When I was a little baby
My momma said, "Hey son
Travel where you will and grow to be a man
And sing what must be sung, poor boy
Sing what must be sung."
And I don't give a damn about a Greenback a-dollar
Spend it fast as I can
For a whaling song and a good guitar
The only things that I understand, poor boy
The only things that I understand
Now that I'm a grown man
I've travelled here and there
I've learned that a bottle of brandy and a song
The only ones who ever cared, poor boy
The only ones who ever cared
And I don't give a damn about a Greenback a-dollar
Spend it fast as I can
For a whaling song and a good guitar
