In the late 80's I was told by a person that he could control his dreams by starting by looking at his hands, at that time I had not heard of either Don Juan or Carlos C. I wanted to try this after I heard about the wonderful dream stories my friend told. After looking at my hands for several months it happened one night I was sleeping, I was in the middle of a river with water up to my knees, there was a gentle breeze blowing and the stars were shining brightly in the sky and the lights were twinkling softly from the houses that lay some distance from the river bank, I stood there peaceful and refreshed at the same time with lukewarm water up to my knees, I couldn't believe it, I was in another world and watched my hands which changed shape all the time. This happened only 2 more times in my dreams but completely different scenes, the last time was a nightmarish dream, and i was scared to death, so there it ended.
Now, 40 years later I started practicing with my hands again, but no success so far, looking forward when it will happen. I have read 4 of C.C's books, and I love every page of them.

I have read many comments today and it struck me that none of them really know , what l call donJuanism, is all about .
After all this time we are no more advanced as a society after Castanedas titanic efforts than we were in the 60s .
To get the true power of the great message accross is proving to be very much an uphill struggle .
But that certainly will not stop me at all at all .lt only makes me more determined to educate the fierce amount of assholes that are out there

For me Tensegrity is very much a load of crap .
Now l know Carlos insisted they were very serious bona fides practices that he himself learned from donJuan ,and he further maintained that donJuan himself regarded them in a very seroius way .
Carlos said the energy that was generated by lets say 100 practitioners of these special movements of the body, which he termed magical passes , was something that donJuans own practitioners in the world of Sorcery could never have created . Be that as it may my humble opinion forces me to say that Carloss emphasis on this aspect of donJuans knowledge only leads the seeker into a dead end strret and he has overemphasized the value of what he called Tensegrity .

In Hebrew Kabbalah, there is the word Chashmal, which means a spiritual power. I have read C. Castaneda among his many perspectives considered himself a Kabbalist. I believe that there is an opportunity to preserve the sacred teachings of the Aboriginal America within the framework of modern religions, such as Judaism, granted the gateway is narrow and hard to see.

I read “The art of dreaming” now 3 times. And everytime i read it, my dreams become actually lucid. Joyfull, in my dreams I suddenly can jump really high, and also I become able to instantly project myself from A to B, just by wanting it. In my dreams that is😄
However… when the book is finished, these feats stop too.

I could see kids doing these sort of exercises in an attempt to gain superpowers. The exercises themselves are not entirely useless since a lot of focus and energy needs to be devoted in order to practice the manipulation of the "invisible energy" but then again one can do ballet, aikido, swimming or meditate by focusing on the body or on the senses. Ultimately any type of meditation has the purpose of achieving something and that something can be summarised as having an edge over the non-believers or becoming "egoless" by using the ego which of course even a child can tell you it's a futile pursuit.

Imagine that if Carlos Castenada's so-called Critics & People-who-do-not-like-him-&-his-Works, if they would do the very same so-called (studying warts under microscopic lens/glasses) work for the Abrahamic body of Mythologies which have turned into mainstream religions, they would call all the main big religions: LIARS!
For instance so-called St Paul's writings are full of affirmation which historically, academically were not at all what he is said to have written. Ergo, he was a big liar from an Academic perspective, the very same one finds Carlos Castenada's works to be lies and rubbish!
Well, if they would employ the same measure in order to measure them equally! So what it is really at stake here it is MEANING.
If you get to read Carlos Castenada's works and let's say, that they help you, they inspire you to evolve beyond your small lot in life, then great, grand, brilliant!
Now, from a choosy/picky, wilful intellectual dishonest, or/and, wilful ignorant perspective, it is easy to say that there is no proof of/for this, or for that, etc.
I only wish that these same people would do the same ( with that fire in their belly ), to their Torahs, to their Bibles, etc.
Because, folks, no mythology-turned-religion can withstand that type of anal retentive scrutiny without falling apart into deception and lies.
The VALUE a.k.a. the MEANING of books such as the Torah, the Bible and Carlos Castenada's works, it is in the INSPIRATION which they may bestow upon, to those "that way naturally inclined".
Not everybody will like everything on earth.
We all are defined by our Differences, by the Cultures which we have invented, however, we all should really be defined and validated by our own individual and collective MEANING instead!
Because every Culture always praises its own!
Not about race, not about ethnic concerns, it is all very Cultural, folks!
Carlos Castenada's works have stood the test of time and they do inspire people.
That it is all that matters!
The rest is a bunch of people who would love to discredit and to close any doors which Carlos Castenada's books may open to others.
If the characters in his books are of a Spiritual Nature, maybe they were not of this World.
If the places he visited were actually visited only in Spiritual Ways, astral wise, then there would not be any physical visitations to those places nor any proof thereof.
The same applies to the lovely late Florinda Donner and her works!
People have employed Academia in order to attempt to close the DOORS that these two people have opened via their works, their books, their sharing, their teachings!
I will have you to know, all major mainstream religions and their books cannot withstand the same Academic lens without falling apart into lies and pure rubbish, mythology turned religion!
Evolution comes to all and from all unexpected directions.

Thank you for posting this material. I am half way through the literature of Castaneda, Taisha Abelar and Florinda Donner Grau and starting to move towards the magic pases.

All three 'Chacmools' turned into pure energy, or more likely, died of exposure out in the desert back in 1998. I guess Carlos at the end was taking some inspiration from Heaven's Gate.
