I have a 12 person dark rest instant cabin tent. It costs over $200 and if actually quite well made for family camping. These super cheap ones though? Yeah I wouldn't expect them to be anything.

I bought a 10 person option ozark. Crazy as it sound it rained for 4 days. Not one drop of water. But I did set it up in my back yard 4 weeks before camping. While it was set up. Seemed sealed the whole tent both inside and out. The next day sprayed the whole tent inside and out with scotch guard water proofing spray two times. Let it dry for 48 hours. I have used it about 10 times since then in heavy winds and rain. Still holding up just fine with no issues.

I have 2 Ozark trail tents. A 10 person and a 6 person. Neither one of them has ever leaked and I’ve been in them with bad storms and pouring rain. The only complaint I have is that they do have some condensation but other than that they have never leaked. I went camping with friends and we played card games for 2 hours while it was storming and we were completely dry. I have loved mine. That’s too bad that the backpacking tents are like this and now I know not to buy the backpacking ones. Thank you.

I did just notice this video is 5yo. So maybe they started making their tents better since mine are only a couple years old 😃

I have use this brand for around 9 years, I have to say I really like it. Have upgraded 3 times, from a 4 person, to a 6 then 8 just because our family grew and we wanted more space and because the last camping, trip we forgot our tent, so we ran to Walmart got the 8 person tent, love it, we have been through some nasty storms and out of all the tents on our group 4 or 5, 2 were OT and the only ones that didn't got wet inside. Nothing wrong to say. Everybody have different experiences. I have to add that, it my help that I been camping since I'm like 5 years old, I have a bit of experience in what to do and not. Around 27 years of camping in other countries, specially Central America, so I'm not new to this.

I'm not sure who you talked to at Ozark Trails, but I just called them and told them about this video. I mentioned the comment the person who you were speaking to about it's not meant for the weather and her response was to laugh and say "That's absolutely not true"! The very next question she asked me was for the model number so she knew which model we were talking about. She mentioned that it would be a good idea to seal the seams on the inside of the tent, but the fly is manufactured differently and needs no extra conditioning. You need to do another video changing what you said in this one. It is, at best, misleading.

Over the years I have known several people that have Ozark Trail tents, and it's a mix bag of experiences. Few of my friends said that it's was one of the best budget tents for 3 seasons and 5 years later tents. Then I have hunting and fishing friends that stated that the Ozark tents are horrible and only good in sunny /fair weather conditions. I believe it's probably a failure on product control issue on Ozark side of things. Now, as far as Ozark camping gear goes, they are good cheap items that don't fall apart easily after couple years. I have a Ozark Trail magnetic 2-1 flashlight for my vehicle and I would recommend it as a great budget flashlight for all weather and emergency situation. I used it a lot for auto repairs on my vehicles and for spotlighting.

Everyone knows OT isn’t top shelf equipment.. an overwhelming majority of people myself included.. can’t justify spending 600$ plus for a tent.. so OT fills a niche .. not for everyone but neither is German beer 🍺 or fat girls

WARNING ⚠️ IGNORANCE!!
The FACT IS NO TENT IS WATERPROOF. EVERY tent needs to be waterproofed with silicone spray. concentrate on the seams and railfly
and body of tent. T w o treatments and any tent will stay dry, It does not mater who makes the tent or the price of the tent. I've used OT tents for years now and I'm a seasoned 67 year old camper. If you properly set up and treat your tent with waterproofing spray you will not have any problems with the rain and the tent leaking.

I haven't Ozark screen room and it also is not waterproof. A couple times a year I spray it down so that at least the top section is waterproof and the water beads a little on the screen as well. So spraying it down with waterproofer helps the situation tremendously I don't know that would help a floor for instance but roof it does

Well, at least you actually spoke with a REAL PERSON instead of a robot voice when you called them. Maybe on the tent you tested it said it wasn't waterproof ? And, maybe all their small backpacking tents aren't waterproof or even water resistant - hence the reason he didn't ask for the model number of the tent you called about. (BTW, for those who don't know, there is a significant difference between being waterproof and water resistant - look it up. ) It's just that, before you go camping, on any tent, you may want to actually spend a little time to reinforce the waterproofing - or water resistance - of your tent by using a seam sealer on every seam of it. Follow the instructions on your individual tent to find out which seam sealer to use, though, as there are several types for the many different tent fabrics out there. 😉

I think maybe the older models were made better???.... Back in 1998 when I moved to Aspen Colorado, I bought a cheap Coleman "Ozark Trail" UV-Tex 5 for maybe about $20 to $30 bucks I think.... and I literally camped in the Colorado Mountains about 20 miles from Aspen off Castle Creek Road near Ashcroft Ghost Town from EVERY NIGHT from August 5 to December 20, 1998, so that's about 5 months living in this tent while working for the Aspen Skiing Company.... On rainy days & nights, I NEVER got wet, nor did I get cold at night with a simple cheap sleeping bag... Well, I moved back to Florida for Christmas 1998 and I haven't camped since, and the tent has been stored in it's original bag for 25 years.... Well, I'm early retired now and I am FINALLY planning to use this tent again on the adventure of a lifetime... In January 2025, I am planning an Appalachian Trail THRU Hike, and I will take this same old tent to see how it holds up again, and I think it will since it lasted 5 months in Colorado.

I have had good luck with my Ozark Trail pop-up 6 man tent...no craftsmanship issues, study and strong....No it won't handle long torrential rains, but that goes for almost any tent not built for such. Maybe a five -six hundred dollar tent with a complete double weather rain fly coverage. If I must camp in "unforeseen bad weather" just keep a tarp or two handy for heavy, winds, and rain you'll have no problems. But actually I always camp in good weather high in the mountains of NC, which is easy to predict with weather forecasts these days. BTW I've used far more expensive tents over the years with issues galore. Here you're talking about what's termed as a $20 backpack tent for good summer weather, that's all! And you're adorable for "ISSUING AN ALERT" 😂

Ozark Trail tents are definitely budget and the quality can be mixed. For some of us that's still the best option. With a little time a can of waterproofing spray and a little seam sealer I've never had an issue. Your video is good because people should know what they are getting but they should also know it's not unfixable

Sleeping in my car in South Florida without air-conditioning is absolutely miserable. So I thought I’ll throw out this pop-up. I’m not sure what model, it looks to be about 6 x 8 or so. The only part of the tent that’s waterproof is the floor. Gallons of water will collect in the floor… and it’s not even rainy season. I would consider this a light rain but here I am, parked at the fucking truck stop because OZARK TRAIL FAILED ME FOR THE LAST TIME lol. Seriously don’t buy their stuff unless you’re a weekend warrior and it’s not going to rain. If I have to buy a tarp, I may as well just use the tarp!! These are not tents, they are effectively mosquito nets with poor ventilation.

We have a 6-8 person that handles rain and wind just fine. I think they just made this one with so little protection in order to be able to have something for sale at price point of 25 bucks. Either way if I am spending money on putting something between me and the elements, I'm not trusting 25 dollars to do it no matter what you tell me. I'm going up a few levels and prices and starting there. Cool channel man!
