The only thing that keeps me from switching to linux on my main pc is the fact that all the big parametric 3D design programs such as SW and Siemens NX doesn't run on linux. At least NX ran on linux on the older versions but its kinda hard to find those versions

I love how gaming had a massive chance to implement linux without being forced, but never did. Now Valve is just bruteforcing companies into linux support, or else they miss out on the ridiculous amount of money they could make, from the steam deck's release

I switched 2 months ago. I'm never going back- ALMOST everything works. Every game I've tried works- except Rust. Had to give up my Rust addiction.

I'm going to use some virtual machines because I have games that need 95, 98, and XP that I haven't played in years. Now, one I would really love to play is the computer version of Ogre, which requires booting off of the 5.25 floppy. That's not in the BIOS anymore so that ain't gonna happen. For now I'm most likely going to install Win11 with Linux and others in VMs, and eventually I will wipe it, install Linux and everything else in VMs.

id love to leave windows but a couple of things stop me:
- vmWare (virtual box is so inferior i cant even describe it. in vmWare stuff just works. in virtual box i have to run scripts and install operating systems by hand. theres no 'easy install' which is a problem since you cant just leave it while it does the time consuming stuff, youll have to babysit it)
- Sony Vegas (kdlive performs terrible, if you do it in blenders video editor you need to build proxies)
- Photoshop (gimp is terrible) 🟥
- Substance Painter (no alternatives available) 🟥
- CSP (krita maybe, but it still seems a lot worse)
- Visual Studio 🟥
- Notepad++

(🟥 = The deal breakers / essential for my work)

I play star citizen on Linux with Lutris, and so far the anti-cheat hasn't yeeted me into the shadow realm yet. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if one day an update to the game banishes me to Brazil.

Update: Halo MCC now works on Linux! Counter-intuitively, you have to select the launch option with anti-cheat disabled. I just played a 4v4 Reach match on Arch Linux. Worked great. We won by 1 kill :)

@SomeOrdinaryGamers Looks like we belong in the same church lol. Preach it bro. My business partner and I both bought surface pro with i5. They are in the literal sense, identical. 3 years later, he bought a new one because "it's too slow", we tested same work we always do, and mine is still faster than his new. I run linux mint he now is slower than before with win 11. Now go explain this. I prefer not to argue and let him make it a business expense than explain lol. so he literally spent 1200$ to be slower than before... 🤣🤣🤣

as a linux user and a windows user too. I promote linux always. however as an IT professional, Windows is a lot more friendly in terms using VDI and allow 500 concurrent virtual session in order push to end users in a single command.

As I’m not a gamer, Linux is perfect. Personally I use Archlinux because I like its customization and it's easier for me to use the command line, but Zorin or Ubuntu are good options, in fact Zorin is what I started out on when I made the switch to Linux. The average user could easily use it just as easily as Windows without worrying about the command line
