Baldur's Gate 3 - Mind Flayers EXPLAINED (5-Minute Lore)

Are they evil or just hangry?

Soo after a transformation, I keep hearing tales of concern.

1: The process destroys the soul of the host, this true?

2: Is it a merge, or does the squid think it's the same person?

BG3 leaves me so confused ...

Mind Flailer

Flail of Ages: 1d8 + 1 + Elemental Age (+1 attack, +1d4 acid damage) + Elements of Epoch (-2 AC condition on hit). Main hand only deal +1 bludgeoning damage per strength modifier on a miss.

Caustic Band: +2 acid damage to all weapon attacks

Ichorous Gloves: Dealing acid damage inflicts noxious fumes (1d4 acid damage) in a 10 ft radius. Acid Resistance on self, and -2 damage from all sources armour.

Defender Flail: 1d8 + 1 + strength modifier. -1 physical damage from enemy attacks, +1 AC in the off hand.

Defence Fighting Style/Dual Wielder feat/Dual Wielding fighting style: +1 AC when wearing armor, +1 AC when dual wielding. Can dual wield flails, and full damage with the off-hand.

drizzt got enslaved by them when he left the dark elf citadel... super interesting. First book. Read it. They dominate humans and dark elfs LITERALLY SO THEY CAN MASSAGE THE GIANT BRAIN lol. Like their whole purpose after domination is to massage the giant brain. To please the brain. Pretty twisted lol. And the brain will give pleasure, but mostly pain to the dominated.

No mind flayer party members then😆
Perhaps an expansion could make them Cathulu monsters playable.

What I find funny is in 5E, which BG3 is running, Mind Flayers aren't THAT strong, lol. They have a CR of 7, which is stronger than most starting groups, but much weaker than you'd think. Beholders and Rhakasha are both almost twice as strong with CR13, and even Blue Salads (the 2nd weakest of the Saladi after Red) tie them with CR7.

Mind flayers kinda seem to be assholes.

As a newbie to the D&D universe I say KILL'EM ALL !
But as a Lovecraft fan I kinda like Squid people from outerspace <3

BG2 has a pretty good illithid/gith section in the Underdark portion if you ever get a hankering to play that game. It's an oldie but a goodie.

Hey... great lore video!... since i love dwarfs... i will add an extra bit of lore... the Duergar where once a proud Dwarven clan that was slaved by the Ilithid and brought down to the underground. After some time they were able to revel against the ilithid and destroy a big chunk of their colonies in the underground (very much like that Gith)
PS: if you want to have some nightmares. you can look for elder brain dragon

Freaking "Cthulhu" aliens, brain-eaters. Nope, they are straight up evil, either run or fight.
The story of Githiyanki is an interesting one, since the were enslaved for a long time, fought for their freedom and won. One would think, from the surface level of understanding of presented conflict between Illithid and Gith, that the latter ones are "good guys", your typical freedom fighters that somehow means justice, and some other virtues. And they are not, they just aren't, they are arrogant, look with disdain on other races and take "what is theirs" if need be, their "ruler" made a pact with evil dragon goddess Tiamat. Overall just as alien to material plane as Illithids.
