Psst... check out OnlyOffice next!
ОтветитьThanks for the great video! I did installed it and see many fonts but not calibri (as you have). How could I get it? thanks!
ОтветитьThankx.
ОтветитьDoes anyone have any idea if there's a way to slow down the scroll speed in Libre? It's one thing that's been a real pain for me. It scrolls so much further than I expect it to even just lightly pulling on it.
ОтветитьBlumming useful also language tool is a useful addon for getting good spelling
ОтветитьFor budget reasons these days Ive been distro hopping and finally staying in MX Linux, and this video was very helpful to customize LibreOffice, thank you so much! New subscriber here
ОтветитьThank you. The video was very useful.
ОтветитьVideo is good over all but if you hate the ribbon like me, skip the first 5 min.. don't cancel out thinking the whole thing is abut this
I hate the ribbon so much... so glad they're not forcing the ribbon - when you said "more compatible" I was thinking actual compatibility - not ruining the user interface
The advice on fonts is really helpful though - Dealing with passing Adobe Illustrator files between mac and PC users , I feel this pain often - so this is nice for linux users here
The advice on file formats for defaulting to MS office formats - I use this all the time so that my co workers aren't asking what the files I'm sending them are... :)
HOW do you get it to look nice and modern like that instead of the outdated design like the standard libreoffice?
ОтветитьI'm using LibreOffice to get away from that stupid ribbon interface...
ОтветитьThe screens got wider and wider over the years and M$ felt, it had to cut away a horizontal ribbon? That's bullshit.
ОтветитьHey so I couldn't find the answer online for this: when I open word files with the newest ms word it says the following: the operation on (insert file location and file name).docx was started with an invalid parameter.
Any idea how I can proceed with it?
Calibri (all cleartype) font doesn't install with ttf-mscorefonts-installer. Tried to install it from outside, but it looks ugly below 15 font size. Also tried to disable bitmaps, but no change.
ОтветитьI’d rather just use office…
ОтветитьThere is a 3rd party software that I use for mass mailings (there's a lot of them out there) that checks on the accuracy of all the addresses in your excel file mailing lists and corrects them.
Anyway, When I import an excel list into Libre Office to work on, everything goes fine. If I import that Libre Office exported excel file into excel, everything goes fine. However, if I export from Libre office to an excel file and then import that excel file into the mass mailing software, it will say that there's a ridiculous amount of records in the file. Ex. If there are actually 300 addresses in the excel file, the mass mailing software will say that there are 2 million addresses. When you use the "preview file" option in the mass-mailing software, you'll find that all those extra record lines are blank. So, there's some sort of corruption of background data that happens in the conversion to a MS Excel file from Libre Office. In order to fix this problem, one would have to import that corrupted file into excel and export it as a new excel file, then import that into the mass-mailing program.
Main Menu? Gee, it would be nice if that actually showed up. On the far right of my UI are the controls for the window, there is no Main Menu. Perhaps you should open with how to get that to display before telling us to keep going to it.
ОтветитьThanks for this.
ОтветитьLibre office unfortunately is clunky, not intuitive, slow and way, way behind Microsoft Office. Wish is wasn’t but it is!!
ОтветитьDon't save in MS format by default. If creates problems when reopening documents especially with stlyes. Using the multisave extension is much better as it allows you to automatically save to MS formats in addition to the standard ODF formats.
ОтветитьUI is the last thing I care about. I used LibreOffice for my thesis, papers, and everything. It was far superior to word which I had it for free. PowerPoint advanced features also don't matter that much. libre does fine there as well.
But when it comes to spreadsheets, nothing beats excel, like not even close.
I hate 365 and cloud mirroring.
ОтветитьI recently swithed from MS office to LO, just saw this video and all my doubts cleared in one single place. Thank you👍
ОтветитьIam using office 2013 on my linux mint
ОтветитьThe ribbon is evil.
ОтветитьRibbon bar is crap. I uninstalled MS office 7 after I couldn't find anything and my shortcut keys didn't work. So I suppose the reason is not the default for litre office is because it's crap. Also I'm sure I heard that Microsoft itself is abandoning it.
ОтветитьI want to get away from Microsoft with Windows spyware, Onedrive, and the lack of any work on Access.
I use Words styles and templates and they are very old now - the code behind them is decades old.
Does Libre Office have styles and templates similar to Word?
As the saying goes .... put crap in , expect to get crap out.... libreoffice is crap...
ОтветитьI feel sorry for those who fell for the microsoft trap and now pay every month for that bloated garbage.
ОтветитьLibreOffice is a great office suite, I like it so much and to me it's mandatory to install it alongside Ms-Office, however, it still needs some tweakings especially when managing non-latin languages
ОтветитьOnlyoffice looks much better. But I've found cases where libreoffice is better reading csvs than onlyoffice. I'm impressed that making a good spreadsheet is so difficult to make. Functions are basically the same, computers are way powerful, things like flutter, react, avalon make life easier with UI. Maybe 🤔 we need a common infrastructure?
ОтветитьThis video is excellent. But the Libre Office developers should work on this, so that everyone else does not have to.
In other words, Libre Office should have all of these configuration options already set to mimic Microsoft Office.
Or, Libre Office should have a single click option in a menu to get this all set up.
Users should not have to search for a video like this, hope that they find it, and spend an hour watching, pausing, un-pausing, and configuring Libre Office.
Hey Nick, you won't read this, but thats the reason we use foss: liberty of choice. Let the usar choose wich interface he likes.
ОтветитьRemember when the ribbon interface was forced upon us, it was pretty much universally abhorred. Not using the ribbon interface is a major plus for power users. It is a pity that Steve Ballmer ignored this criticism, he did that with Vista and Windows 8 as well and it finally cost him his job. Unfortunately this happened too late for Office to return to a sane interface, one that has not been slowing down users for 15 years. You should be praising Libre Office where it improves on MS Office and not suggesting ways to nerf it.
ОтветитьIs there actually ANY office pack, that is compatible with o365 and allows collaboration and opening remote documents? Because in the business environment, this is basically the biggest reason, why NOT to switch to Linux. Other SW is usually ported .. Slack, Teams... you name it. But the office pack is still the biggest bummer...
ОтветитьExcellent video my friend.
Thank you.
For those of us who have been working on Linux for years the ribbon title bar is just confusing bling, hence I'm happy to keep the standard version.
ОтветитьI think Writer is genuinely much better than Word, Calc unfortunately is like going back to Excel 2003.
Its fine for really simple stuff, but for more complex work you need to be creative.
For more advanced data analysis you can use some Anaconda packages that once you are familiar you'll realise that you are better off using these tools in the first place!
Duckdb/Polars/Matplotlib/Seaborn can do great things and are totally open source.
This video answered a lot of my questions.
ОтветитьThis is great
ОтветитьSwitched to OnlyOffice recently under Linux, from my point of view faster and more stable compared to LibreOffice especially spreadsheet app. Chinese colleagues used it under Windows as MS Office replacement which astronishing good results in exchanging documents (focus PowerPoint) between both worlds.
Ответитьthank you for your video, it was very helpful.
ОтветитьOk
So Microsoft wants a person to pay 250$ for 3 basuc applications for doing basic work,
Rip your privacy, unknown crashes, worst software support which no one uses.
Which you get free on open source.
Microsoft Word is not completely comatible with importing/converting PDFs. The guarantees are Adobe, LibreOffice, and probably dedicated PDF apps like Wondershare or Sedja
Ответитьthank you! I really appreciated this video! It was super helpful to get things figured out with this program!
ОтветитьI think libreoffice doesn't use ribbon by default because, honestly, it looks pretty piss on Windows. As in, I genuinely thought something was broken when I first enabled it, and if I actually used my windows install frequently enough for it to be abnormal I'd still think that it was. Maybe it is just something with my particular install, but the tabbed interface just does not look good on windows for me
Ответитьfor Home use LO is enough to get around, Word and Email is easy was never the problem. Excel, and VBA plugins are the things, and Powerquery, and all database related stuff.
ОтветитьThanks + Gracias x One Million
ОтветитьAre there any Microsoft templates for each Libre office program online? Because I don't have any. Thank you so much if you will helping me.
ОтветитьThanks a lot for this fine tutorial!
