Ответить“Tryna feed a hungry den” gets me every time ! Love it !
ОтветитьThese lyrics are simply amazing. I love the story of transitioning from one body/form to the next as it spans over time.
And his final verses really hit home as to where his mind is coming from and I feel it alludes many of this genre's traditional (christian) listeners. When he talks about him and "someone else" creating the world out of a mighty bang and then came up with the game to play called being born again, it really deviates away from what many would draw parallels to something in Christian theology (I've seen many draw parallels to his referring to Adam and Eve). But that's just so far off from what theology he's actually referring to here. The born again "game" he plays is directly referring to Brahma splitting into two to create man and women and the universe being born out of the massive cracking of an egg. And from that creation, life possesses Atman/Brahman in this cosmic dance with Vishnu (sustainer) and Shiva (destroyer), thus buttressing the fact that this song is about reincarnation and it does not carry Christian undertones.
Brahma created the universe and in Hindu thought, Brahman is the essence that permeates all the universe and Atman is the "piece" of Brahman that is attached to the individual soul. Meaning that Atman is Brahman (I.e. we are one with the universe), meaning we are divine and carry that divine signature.
And it goes even deeper when he says he's playing a game. This refers to the ego and how we mask ourselves and get caught up in "the game" of living a particular life or taking the form of a particular person. It is all an illusion, because we are all actually a form of Brahman playing this game of being born again. And it's said he created life out of boredom and is now caught up playing the game and "acting" in this cosmic theater. And it's on the individual soul (atman) to realize it is one in the same with Brahman (cosmic soul), and to break out of the ego that builds and builds when we get too sucked into playing this particular character.
For western minds, simply put, we are "God", we wear masks, and are simply playing like we are someone else. When "God" created this game of being born again, he's directly referring to Hindu creation and how this entire experience is like a theatrical stage where God plays characters and gets amusement out of it (while also getting sucked into the role-playing and succumbing to ego).
It is absolutely beautiful how he tells this story through the lens of an Eastern Kentucky mind. Stunning.
GREAT Lyrics!!!!
ОтветитьTyler please make us something new. You set the bar high enough; know one will see it from where they stand. I'm thankful you didn't go wild and just throw out songs like most. However, you're starving us! It'd make many good days for many folks to enjoy a Tyler Childers song for the 1st time another time.
ОтветитьCountry squire.. lady may... Follow you to Virgie.. I swear to God.. all your'n.. feathered Indians...etc. Tyler Childers makes for a happier life.
ОтветитьMy favorite Tyler songs are those where it is just him and his guitar. This song and performance were perfection.
ОтветитьThat dang fox
ОтветитьJesus said we must be Born Again, meaning, being born of the spirit of God. He alone is our salvation.
ОтветитьSounds like he is describing the "Allen Watts" idea of, if you were God what would you do.
I think the idea goes something like, you would create a universe and choose to forget you created it so you could experience the universe through different eyes while constantly being "born again" every time you die.
I probably messed it all up but it's way more coherent when Watt's explains it.
I've heard this song a hundred times, but this is the first time I heard this song. What a song
ОтветитьJust discovered this song today. I'm bawling. We are connected. This gives me chills. It resonates truth. What a beautiful person Tyler Childers is. A rare gem, that one.

ОтветитьIn one hundred years people will still be sitting in bedrooms or back porches or campfires singing these songs. Probably a lot longer. Someday people will understand and appreciate just how talented of a songwriter this man is and he will get the recognition he has earned.
ОтветитьI"m done
ОтветитьMy mom passed away suddenly last December. She was only 57. I’ve listened to this song a lot today thinking about her. I hope she came back as something cool and I might get to meet her again some other time.
