I started watching after had read all these positive comments...After S3 E2 I gave up and skipped to the final episode. After 10 min I skipped to the last 10 minutes.... OMG, what a pathetic end! Great Reset, LOL! The series is boring and predictable, sometimes very naive. Colony is a masterpiece compared to this.

I'm watching this again. This is absolutely the best sci fi invasion drama ever made. It has it all.
Aliens, high tech, spacecraft, creepy crawlies, spies, a twisted love story, heros, antiheros, Pope and Maggie, Hal and Col.Weaver.
Got it all. I feel like a Mason family member. The characters are so real. Well rounded and lifelike.

Just finished watching what I know will be a first viewing. Who, if anyone is ato with what I call the best sci fi series ever produced.
Who could watch this once and walk away? Personally I think it will be a long time before something better comes along.
For me, after watching just the first episode I felt like a member of the Mason family. The change very much like real people we minnow.

glad to see so many positive fans in here. Saw a reddit with like 15 woke-tards bashing on it. I'm pretty sure like 2 people said they didn't like it, and the rest were just stupid sheep following the leaders. It's sad how so many people can't even form their own opinions anymore. I never expected the internet to have this effect on people.

I don't care what anyone says. This show was amazing. They messed up some of the typical writing stuff such as having plot holes, lacking in areas of character development, and all that, but as a sci fi fan I love how they just kept coming up with more and more crazy shit. The harness kids with super powers was enough for me to watch it. So badass. Then they had another alien race, then that chic that was like half alien and grew up real fast. People complained about a lot of this stuff, but I get bored really easily and this show kept my attention all the way through. Obviously the first few seasons were way more realistic and better written, but for me I enjoyed the whole thing. I am currently rewatching it all. I'm on season 1 episode 3 and totally forgot how good it was. I watched the new show Invasion (more woke BS) and it was okay but so slow and so many long drawn out pointless scenes. I enjoyed watching it but it made me realize amazing CREATIVE shows like Falling Skies probably won't happen anymore. So I guess I have to go back and rewatch the good stuff :)

Jacques COULARDEAU
Jacques COULARDEAU - 06.01.2022 15:56

The Earth invaded and colonized by an extraterrestrial species, the Esphenis. They enslave humans in two ways. First by attaching – or yoking – some live organic device on their backbone, and second by skitterizing other humans using genetic elements to transform the humans into skitters. Skitters are also slaves but essentially slave warriors for the Esphenis. They have six legs and walk in a strange way like spiders, I guess. Some skitters are looking after groups of six human children that have been yoked as said before, establishing with these yoked children a sort of parental relationship that makes the yoked kids dependent. A third attempt was developed at one time in the series. Capturing young children or teens and bringing them into an Espheni school where they are educated, meaning indoctrinated into collaborating with Esphenis. There was another possibility with the daughter of Tom Mason and Anne Glass, Lexi is her shortened name. She was born with Espheni DNA in her. No clear explanation is given how this impregnation could have occurred. Right to the end, and her final destruction, she is referred to as the daughter of both Anne and Tom. Lexi was instrumental in the project of gathering some humans in peace in some privileged colonies where they could live in affluence and even wealth but accept the Espheni rule and Lexi as their prophet or protector. Note Lexi is the first female human used by the Esphenis. In the school for kids, the leader is a male human. I guess this Lexi is a way to move us toward the idea that this alien species is led by a Queen that will only appear in the last season. Note Lexi had become, for a while, the supreme overlord of the Esphenis “residing” in the vicinity of Tom Mason’s and Dan Weaver’s Massachusetts 2.

To stay on this remark about women, on the side of Tom Mason’s resisting group, women are essential especially with Doctor Anne Glass who is the main doctor all along. She is also the woman who gave birth to Tom’s daughter, Lexi, in unclear conditions. Women in the series are often graphically depicted in their ends, and Lexi is semi-self-destroyed by decaying into plain dust in a few seconds. This Dr. Anne Glass, married to Tom at some time in the series, will be killed at the end but Tom will entrust her to the sea out of which long alien tentacles took her down under. In the final scene she apparently has been revived. I say here that the death or fate of women is a lot more graphic than the death or fate of men, even the central men characters. The series is definitely dominated by men, and female traitors are common from beginning to end, most of the time ready to look for some surviving or survival compromise with the invaders. The worst one, of course, is the female officer who controls an essential military group in the last season. She is killed when she orders four Masons to be shot, and her blood is black (like the President of the USA et the time of the broadcasting), which confirms she is no longer human and the overlord she met at night was her real master. As for this element, the series is vastly male-dominated, and that is in a way surprising because it has been proved over centuries that women could play a leading role in some fights against their human communities losing some of their freedom. Joan of Arc is not an exception. I am surprised by and critical of this male-domination in western culture since 1945, at least in literature, the cinema and television. Streaming has not basically changed anything, and in spite of the effort of authors like Stephen King with his female characters from the very start, Carrie and The Firestarter, males have remained dominant even in Anne Rice’s works: her vampire world is dominated by men, her werewolves are dominated by men. The only exception is her witches who are mostly women though they own their witching powers to their DNA heritage from the male Taltos.

It is all the more surprising in this series because we are in science fiction hence in the future. The least we can say is that the American society in this series that is invaded by the Esphenis is not much different from the good old traditional male dominated western society. The exceptions are rare and even Anne Glass or Maggie are definitely not clearcut. When Hal and Ben are fighting for Maggie’s love, the reassertion of the fact that Maggie will have the last choice is not really convincing anyone, even if it is the reassertion of Darwin’s principle, and that’s the strangest element because Ben has the implanted mutation that makes him super strong and powerful and he gave two of these implants to Maggie to save her when she was nearly killed and would have remained a cripple otherwise. Yet she does not choose Ben, she prefers Hal, though in the meantime Hal had selected another woman. So, Darwin’s principle is endangered. Maggie chose the one who did not have the mutating element, and in the end she even have her implants ripped off to be able to detach herself from Ben, and yet, Hal did not see the sacrifice as what he wanted, though Ben accused Maggie of having treated the part of himself he gave her to save her life as if it was nothing but some piece of trash.

The fact that the Esphenis are controlled and dominated by a Queen is disquieting again as for this vision of female characters and femininity. Note on the side of the second alien species, the Volm, there are only male characters. I will say here this series is definitely a male-dominated story and thus far from what we could and should expect from a series of the 21st century.

The rest of the series, which is to say, most of it, is nothing but a story about men at war and all the conflicts and difficulties they have to meet with in such a situation: escapists who refuse the situation and run away – mostly to their death, with a couple of exceptions. One is a betrayal with Lexi. Another one is total absurdity, living on a farm in total autarchy dominated and controlled by a woman, a mother, with a rebellious teenage son. There have been a couple of other groups of this sort, but they always worked with the Esphenis to attract and trap children to deliver them to the Esphenis. Some actually were very hostile against the fighters of the resistance. And of course, you have the traitors of all sorts. They generally end badly. One case is funny, John Pope, who is a born rebel in a world where limitations to his will are everywhere. He will become the leader of a small group of rebels that only target Tom Mason and only want to kill him. Kind of limited in scope.

The reassertion of human principles, human rights, constitutional liberties, and rights is at times funny and the last scene after the final victory sounds so absurd: let’s start all over again. No science fiction anymore but a fairy tale: “Once upon a time there was a country called the United States…” What is Steven Spielberg doing on this derelict barge? The vision of such hostile aliens is absurd, and the motivation of the Queen, to come on earth to avenge her daughter who was long ago captured in South America, Peru or somewhere around, and killed and eaten by the natives, meaning Indians, is the most absurd and vainest motivation you can imagine; Women at war only trying to avenge the fate of their daughters, here, children in general. The reduction of these “children” to “a daughter” is even more sexist than you can even imagine. Sexier than me, you die!

And we could also consider the racial question. It is not better. The series is definitely white-dominant and when you consider the various leading white characters, Anglo-Saxon-centered. They add to that a little bit of Christian religion, though there is no priest and no preacher. Dan Weaver plays the role when necessary. So, it is not protestant per se, but it definitely is Christian. No Muslims, please! No Buddhist either. No Hindus of course. It is with such caricatures of the world in the 21st century that the West is losing, not the battle for anything, but losing its future in the big paranoid vision of the universe as a necessarily hostile environment, basically and maybe even only, to the USA. Tom Mason is a history professor, supposedly, but in spite of his name he is not the future bricklayer of the world we need right now within the globalizing of the universe or multiverse if you want to dream, and under the vast umbrella of the endemic-becoming pandemic. True enough the series was before COVID-19. But it was obviously centering the world on the USA alone that had to be reconstructed. This is pure Trump ideology or phraseology against the power of a president who was an alien by definition since he was not white. And the challenger of this composite Tom-Mason-Dan-Weaver transmuted into Trump was a woman: check women in this series. Think of “once upon a time…” and about Making America Great Again. Women are powerless and at best not entirely feasible for the fight, good enough for the infirmary.

Wait... What the actual fuck???

Prior to knowing this series (and the title) exists, I'm also planning to do a sci-fi novel and also a full-blown animation series entitled "Falling Skies" and YES, IT'S ALSO MAINLY ABOUT ALIEN INVASION (among other apocalyptic events around the world).

It's a shame that the title was already taken... 😢
