this is the second video where you appear to show donkey kong land running in colour on the game boy, what is this? because it doesn't look like the palette that the super game boy would add, and it doesn't look like the color palette hack that came out in 2021, and obviously the original game didn't have colour...
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьI also think the Game Boy is the best of the best over every other console, an awesome library of games with way more hits than misses and a sales record that was not removed from the system until the PS2 finally outsold it somewhere around 2008-09, some 30 years later, sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Good.
ОтветитьLet us not forget that Star Ocean was also as large as Tails of Phantasia on silicon, actually bigger when its brass tax, you see Star Ocean is technically bigger, as it is compressed using the S-DD1 chip and in its decompressed state, the game is 96Mb or 12MB. Love the video mate, it is good reference material for so much more than the its title would have you assume, thank you for this.
ОтветитьThe GameBoy 🕹 was the perfect 90's handheld, and has SO much nostalgia attached. Who hasn't put your dead batteries in the freezer🧊, hoping to get just a BIT more juice out of 'em? Or maybe you would slowly work your way through your household's small appliances, swapping batteries with every remote control📱, Walkman📻 and wall clock🕔 until there was a DOZEN batteries🔋🔋🔋 in your freezer? haha Not to mention it had some of the 90's-est peripherals! Like this one, magnifyer🔍 and light 💡 contraption that would hover over the screen. Or the camera🤳🏼 that was so low-def it was basically 4 pixel resolution. OH, and a PRINTER for the stupid pictures🖼 you took on your Nintendo Potato-cam!!🥔 haha Ahhh, it was great!
ОтветитьDid I just saw a Chain-chomp in a Zelda game ?
ОтветитьTL;DR: Magic.
ОтветитьI'm getting the original Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color one day soon.
ОтветитьIf the MBC5 is so important, why didn't Nintendo just built it into the Gameboy?
Wouldn't they have saved a lot of money, because 1 gameboy=1 MBC instead of 1 gameboy=(n) MBC chips per cartridge?
Can you make a video about Flash boy roms dumper that would be great episode how to preserve GBA / GBC roms thanks
ОтветитьIdk how you like this shit over the switch
ОтветитьQuestion: When a new game was developed and ready for deployment, who produced the cartridges and charged them with the game software? Was it Nintendo? The game developer? A third entity?
ОтветитьNo, the code in the Gameboy header had absolutely nothing to do with the Gameboy hardware except for the checksums. That code was used to submit your game to Nintendo, they would use that for internal purposes. Sometimes the header code couldn't be 100% correct in case of weird custom cartridges so they would approximate it. I really wish people wouldn't put that header code on such a grand pedestal
ОтветитьTechnically this is wrong, bank 0, bank x, and SRAM are only naming conventions that you most certainly do not have to follow. You could have rom in SRAM, bank 0 could be switchable and bank x static, you could have everything SRAM even the rom (although it's be ridiculous), point is, bank 0, x, and SRAM are just address mappings your cartridge can provide data for and/or writing from and where that data comes from or how it is written or read is up to the cartridge and it's just custom for bank 0 to be bank zero, SRAM to be SRAM, etc...
ОтветитьHow does that video sequence work in a GBC if it doesn't have a pixel buffer?
ОтветитьMan I gotta clip that music at the end is it custom?
ОтветитьNintendo designs digital hardware with an analogue mindset, if that makes sense. Like, the way they find creative and inventive ways to increase the capabilities of their consoles by using the synergy of the system overall instead of relying on the raw power of the key components reminds me of the way engineers used to approach electronics design back in the pre-integrated-circuit era, when everything operated through the use of complex systems of electromotive mechanisms.
ОтветитьThis is a brilliant video! Loved it.
ОтветитьThe closed captions don't work... but good video like always MVG
ОтветитьWho needs registers when you have MissingNo.
ОтветитьOh man I've been stuck watching all your videos for the last 2 days. You're so damn good at producing this content, I'm hooked!
Ответитьgames now: asking player to buy new console for more resouce
game then: package its own memory and ram to upgrade your console
my friend helps me...i have a game boy advance which does not work with some games, and sometimes shows an error on graphics like entities of other scenes and sometimes work well just with 2 games super Mario and Bomberman .... before it was working very well but I did open it to clear some terminals buttons, then it does not work as the same :S please help me to find what is the problem with it
Ответить"sophisticated MBC" chips... Well, it's basically a binary decoder, either with a serial (SPI) or a parallel input.
A 74LS138 for example can do the same. 3 bits in allows you to select 8 chips. It is actually used a lot in old 8 bit systems of the day as a bank switcher. I think it's more sophisticated that Nintendo actually for saw this and implemented it in there BIOS.
I need to know two things - how the cartridges were programmed/loaded with games and what kind of firmware or operating system was used in the Nintendo game consoles?
Ответитьimagine cartridges in todays consoles, some games are $300 more, but it comes with an extra gpu lmao
ОтветитьDude I'm writing a gb emulator and this was a blessing from basically nowhere! Useful information thank you!
ОтветитьWhy do the captions think he’s speaking Portuguese
ОтветитьI still think the gameboy era showed off some of the highest skills of what a programmer can do.
ОтветитьI love watching your videos, sadly I have no idea what you're talking about when you go into specifics. (beyond my simple understanding)
ОтветитьHmmm yes, I understand some of these words
ОтветитьMy childhood right here.
ОтветитьI had a headache just watching this video.. I LIKE IT !!
ОтветитьWhyyyy is the game boy everyone's favorite....why do so many ppl overlook the gamegear
ОтветитьI just restored one of these that went through a house fire and sat outside for 15 years.
ОтветитьWhen i here the amount of memory available and the games these developers where able to pull off i am amazed rather than only complaining they really were innovative in their approach
ОтветитьI seriously doubt the system had specific hardware limitations on the read/write signal based on address. So by taking more direct control of the banking system one could have easily banked RAM or ROM into either of the banks. One could have also used the combined banking lines meant for RAM (4bit) along with the ones for ROM (9bit) to provide up to 13bit banking for 64meg in the RAM space and 128meg in the ROM space. Well, assuming you could find chips of appropriate capacity.
ОтветитьI dont know what game boy you were playing, but even with "fresh" four packs of batteries from energizer, duracell, and even two or three off brand ones, I never saw or got 30 hours on a handheld. lol And thw gameboy and gameboy color used almost half as much battery as the game gear, which I too used.
ОтветитьBanks wants to empty the banks, fill our streets with banks, and run a bank making operation out of his banks.
ОтветитьQUESTION: We've seen add-on hardware for the Game Boy, such as the Game Genie game enhancer, and we've seen larger than normal EA cartridges for the Sega Genesis. Accepting the limit to how much data the Game Boy can access at any given time, why didn't we see taller-than-normal Game Boy cartridges (with a notch to accommodate the power switch that locks the cartridge in place)?
Was it simply unnecessary and impractical for the processing power and expected use of the Game Boy? Nintendo did fit game saves into the standard size cartridge, so larger games aren't unimaginable.
Pokemon Trading card game on gameboy.. what a game, what a soundtrack
ОтветитьThe voice sounds a bit like tim cook
ОтветитьHA THANKS FOR THE SERIAL NUMBER. NOW I'M GOING TO CALL 9GNE GNE AND TELL THEM TO ARREST YOU
ОтветитьWith fresh batterys 30 hours?! Thats not how I remember it at all..
ОтветитьI have an idea for you for a video. "How controllers were able to manage bandwidth for memory cards/packs read and writes"
Ответить
