Han died in TFA because Harrison Ford said he'd only come back if they killed him off. Or mayber Disney had been planning it from the beginning.

One of the major reasons Han’s death in TFA had no sense or meaning behind it was because JJ didn’t know Sith ascend by killing people they are attached to in the same of power. Chewbacca’s had the perfect balance of tragedy, heroism and impact in the story. It has everything Han’s didn’t and more, as we actually saw people grieve.

The only good thing about Disney Canon was Chewie got his damn medal.

Lordy when I read this year's ago oof. Ya left out a KEY detail though! During Chewbaccas funeral Han was approached by Chewies parents presenting his sons to fulfill Chewbaccas life debt to Han. This utterly wrecks the man still grieving this loss, with the vong war ongoing Han didn't want to disrespect his friends culture but also didn't want to put his kids in danger either. I remember crying while I read that shit

People actually think this is better than Luke, Han, or Leia's death in the Sequel Trilogy? I like the EU, but Lucasfilm had way less shame when it came to killing off beloved characters before they were bought out by Disney...

This was tragic!

If this were in the theaters, it would look cool and heroic imo, but to most people, it would be heartbreaking.

About 10 years ago when I was working an afternoon shift at the hospital. One of the guys that I was working with was a massive Star Wars fan and had read the comic series and the legend series. We were talking about our love for Star Wars even though I had not read the same material that he had read. He informed me of Chewbacca‘s death and how he died. I was so overcome with grief that it affected the rest of my night at work and also my week. I reflected on his character and how much he meant to me growing up. I could not believe that I felt such deep sorrow for somebody who is essentially a fictional character. Watching this again remind me how much I grieved for Chewbacca. I have no regrets- these characters, the stories are my version of ancient tales and mythologies which taught me many lessons and gave me many subjects to ponder on and fantasise about in my formative years.

Thanks Chewbacca. For being one of the greatest heroes in my life growing up. We all have to die. I will face the same moment. maybe not is such heroic fashion. But all pass into the shadows we must and to be grieved by those left behind.

I didn’t know he actually died in legends. In Disney canon he’s alive but I don’t know if that’s exactly better considering Disney owns him now.

I had been reading every Star Wars book that came out since the beginning. That book made me stop reading them for several years. I was devastated by the death of a fictional character.
