Wow such overkill on the water cooling LOL... 250watt GPU and Thread ripper don't even get that hot. LOL 16 fans for the rads. Also, you're transferring the heat away then putting it back to the bottom of the case so it can flow back up????? You can run that with 1 pump -8 fans and still be good.

SSD benchmarks mean absolutely nothing in the real world. Going from HDD to SATA SSD was pretty huge speed increase. Going from SATA SSD to NVME made little to no difference. Going from Gen3 to Gen4 will make even less of a difference.

You can see difference only in benchmarks. Does nothing for games. Even if you install game into ramdisk

Nice, but you do know if you set up the raid 0 in bios before using a program or windows to do that it's faster right?

So question for you? I have one 1TB WD black 850 that I will put my windows and apps on. I hae 2 more 2 tb wd black drives that I will put games and video recordings on. Should I raid 0 the 2 2 tb drives or just leave them as stand alone drives? The 1 TB boot drive will be on the CPU while the other two will be on the chipset lanes. Thoughts?

Using RAID for SSD is overkill. I have 2 systems, 1 x Samsung EVO 860 Pro, Windows 11 boot time to full desktop < 8 seconds. 1 x Samsung 960 Pro 1TB, Windows 11 boot time to full desktop < 7 seconds.

I have two 980 pro's in a gigabyte Gaming x , X570 motherboard. And I see it offers RAID in BIOS. Would this give me the same outcome? If so.. How to? :D

Im looking to simplify my volumes, not speed. I have 2 Samsung 970 1TB drives for boot, games and programs, and a HDD for pics and videos (all separate volumes) in my current PC. It would be nice to raid the 2 SSDs and have just a C and D drive. Sometimes I transfer things between the SSDs and HDD. Or a lot of the time, I’ll forget which SSD has a folder I’m looking for in file explorer. My next Windows install is getting raid.

Hello SuprUsr Stan!
Thank you very much for this test.
Can you tell us about any problems that you have/had with Samsung 980 Pro Raid 0?

Maybe bad sectors or unstable windows or no problems?
Are you still using the Samsung 980 Pro Raid 0?

I'm afraid of having bad sectors and "destroying" 250€.

The problem with putting M.2 in raid is they run off the PCI Lanes. Most motherboards will bring your GPU bandwidth on the lane down to x8 from x16 due to dual M.2. Not worth it.

My SN850 1Tb raid 0 has very high read speeds in general (around 13k), it has high random 4k writes but substantially lower sequential write speeds (around 6.5-7GB/s). While this is faster sequential writes than a single drive it's not on par with the performance of sequential read speed increase. I'm buffled as to what might be the reason (5950x-Crosshair VIII Dark Hero)

How much RAM do you have? I have a RAID card with 4 x Sabrent Rocket PCIe 4.0 SSDs and it only runs about 10GB/s. If I were to remove most of my RAM from 256 to 64, I get the full 20GB/s I was expecting. It seems connected to whether you have all the RAM slots populated.

I think there was a New Samsung 980Pro Firmware for the NVMe m.2, and Samsung Magician to update firmware...Not sure yet if it will have an impact on these. Is there a software where you can check the 1GB DDR4 Ram that is built in on the card that is covered by the Samsung sticker, wondering about a SSD-Z ID of all the I/O capabilities and Specs as onboard, etc. Samsung Magician, you can update the firmware for performance optimization under "Full Power Mode" for high performance according to Samsung Magician. Give us an update if you do update.

It might be, that your mainboards nvme ports are connected to the same
controller in the threadripper, when they are on the same cpu die, that
might slow down the IOPS

Can you help me? I cloned my hdd to my raid-0 drive but i am not reciving about double speed on crystal disk mark. The raid 0 was created with intel rapid storage. I used macrum for the cloning.

On the raid 0 drive everything boots and works perfectly fine, the only problem is the benchmark is the same.

Thank you in advanced.

Are both your m.2 drive slots PCIe 4.0? I'm not sure what motherboard you have but a lot of them are only 4.0 on the CPU slot and the chipset slot is 3.0, I'm wondering (hoping) that could explain the IOPS? I really don't want to have to use an add in card, 7GB is pretty damn close to 10GB so it might just be better for me to buy a single 2TB seeing this. Thanks!

I know I'm late to the party, but try running raid 0 in a add in card. You might be running into a chipset issue. Running in an aic with bifurcated lanes directly to the cpu should improve that performance.
