Never use 'Legacy Box' for your home movie transfers. They will rip you off!
ОтветитьI just purchased this that you have, same box and all. I have a couple minor issues, but all in all, it does as advertised. The fast forward for rewinding is not great, have to help it. After watching your video again, could I just use the USB to my computer, transfer my home movies to my computer, then transfer them to DVD? The Kedok comes with a '32 gb' SD card, but after using it, it only holds 1.1 gb' only.
ОтветитьI can’t thank you enough for this video!!! So easy and now able to convert all my parents’ videos for their surprise 50th Anniversary! Thank you so much!
ОтветитьIm having a problem where the display is showing the image properly, but when I watch the SD card either in display or on PC the footage rolls up and down. I can record fine on some super 8 and others it rolls........ Any suggestions?
ОтветитьI have a question: how many files of the home movies can actually be put into this machine? Because let's say you do one reel and get that all done, but then you want to another reel and so on. I mean it would really suck if you could only do one reel and then when you go to another one, that's the only one that shows up on your TV screen instead of the first one you did.
ОтветитьThis helped a Ton!!! Thank You!!!!
ОтветитьExiste algún sistema para digitalizar películas con sonido??
ОтветитьI have one of these machines and It's stuck in the "advance" mode. Can't stop it or bring it back to the main menue. Even powering down an unplugging won't force it out, it just starts advancing again once powered back on. Any idea on how to force a reset?
Ответитьconsidering the film is probably expired and it's 8mm, I'd say the quality is pretty good.
ОтветитьDoes the super 8 film still need to be developed to be able to insert it into the digital scanner or can I pop the reel straight out of the camera and scan it using this machine? Someone pls help honestly stuck!!!!
ОтветитьThank you it worked for me.
ОтветитьSo I bought a cannon 518 camera, and it takes this kodak film in a plastic square, not a cylinder how to get that into a reel? Unless I made a compatibility mistake? The camera actually doesn't work anyway, :< just wondering, thanks!
ОтветитьHello, great video, I'm curious about the two different scanners (720 and 1080) if one would capture faster than the the other. They probably take the pictures at about the same rate I'm guessing, probably about two pics/sec? But when the capture is done, the machine must take some time to render I would think. So, just wondering if the 720 would take less time? Thanks
ОтветитьI assume only good on SILENT film. I have Super-8 Sound footage
ОтветитьThank you!! The manual for this product is so bad I had no idea how to start it. Thanks to you mine is now running 👍🏼
ОтветитьI was wishing to see how a modern day scenes will look on it . . . nice video thanks
ОтветитьI'm getting mine tomorrow! One question, do you transfer it to the sd card? or directly to your computer? And if so how?
ОтветитьThe digitizer did a great job. It seems to have recovered original colors abd brightbess levels, removed dirt and scratches. Really awesome.
ОтветитьThanks for making this video. Good to know that there is equipment like this out there. I noticed that you did not thread the film properly as indicated by the diagram on the video transcriber. Secondly Super 8 or 8 mm video at best has a resolution of maybe 480p. 35 mm gives about 4K, 16 mm film gives a resolution of about 1080p. So no way can you expect 8 mm to give you anything more than standard-definition or maybe 480p or super VHS at the most. I already have had a scan done of 8 mm to DVD and I was wondering if it would be worth it to redo it and to 480p DVD. Your video as telling me that it is probably not worth going through all the trouble. Thank you for your video.
ОтветитьThanks for your review. Great job.
ОтветитьI think the digitizer looks darker because you set the exposure for darker, since you said the movie was a little too bright, and you were trying to compensate. Perhaps not set at minus0.5, but rather a middle setting to have less contrast. Also, the transfer is notably yellow. Guess it depends on what you prefer. After all, unless you take your home movies to a professional ($$$$$), you expect compromise to save the film from deteriorating to nothing.
ОтветитьI'm sorry but I have no audio on my computer can you do this with audio as well I have a few 8 mm with audio
ОтветитьMy dad's old films had a sound tape added to the side of the film. is there anyway to capture this sound please?
Ответитьexcellent i just bought one and works a charm just make sure people slippy side down in the slide
ОтветитьHI Eric,
I found your video very helpful yesterday (being Saturday 14th Jan 2023), when I was using my 8mm and Super 8 movie film scanner for the first time. The movie I scan was an old 8mm home print of the 1936 film The Charge Of The Light Brigade, which I brought off eBay two years ago. I was very happy with the result of the frame-by-frame scanning of this home movie. Because of my success with this device, I have got more old 8mm home movies to scan, in which I shall forward to doing with great enjoyment.
imo the video transfer system is soooo much better ... how did you do that ?
ОтветитьThe film digitizer is way sharper more detail, better color than the projector and the box conversion.
Ответитьhow do you download direct to a computer instead of using an SD card?
ОтветитьAnd yet to me the digitiser looks much better, overall, than the video transfer.
ОтветитьI mean your starting off with imperfection so it is what it is. Just having the film digitized is a big win. I had mine professionally transferred at a camera shop and he supplied uncompressed video with high res. It still looked bad - it’s just the source. The digitizer does a fairly nice job.
ОтветитьJust bought one of these and am eager to try it out. Did you try redoing this video with the exposure set to normal or +1? Perhaps the digitizer would be a little bit brighter if you did.
ОтветитьAlguien que me pueda digitalizar una cinta 8mm a Digital aquí en la ciudad de México?
ОтветитьGreat video. Does the film digitizer give you audio on Super 8 reels?
Ответитьvery useful. Thanks
ОтветитьThanks! Your video gave me a bit of a confidence boost. I just purchased one of the 1080p models. I already have a splice set that I have had for ages. They are all films from the 50s, 60s and early 70s. By then I think super 8 film was so expensive my dad stopped using it. I had spent several hours filming a few of the reels with a camcorder and playing it on a flat wall and had numerous film breaks so I anticipate a lot of splicing. In comparison to my camcorder version yours look superb! I hope to get a comparative quality of a capture. Anything would be better than the time spent taping it from a wall.
All in all an excellent video post by you. Presented with a knowledgeable informative helpful way that gave me a boost in my perspective. I feel more confident that I will not ruin my families old memories and may even enhance them a bit - compared to the times dad would pull out the projector, light up a pack of cigarettes, and swear at the projector for a few hours while the rest of the family sat around and fidgeted. 😀Thanks for the helpful video. And Yes, your digitized version was the better version.
Va a convertire in una scheda sd ??? Grazie
ОтветитьVery well done and helpful. Ordered a Wolverine, and upon opening it, had a printed card inside, warning that if it looked used - return amount would be reduced . Never used it, packed up and ready to go back - without even taking it out of box. Will try this machine, for less ! Think I will clean film first though. Thank you !
ОтветитьFor splicing- What glue is best to use now in 2022?
ОтветитьI bought mine the guy used it once I paid $125 .. I like your video thank you for posting a great video
Ответитьit doesn't have an IR channel, so it can't remove dust and scratches
ОтветитьI just got a Magnasonic Digital converter to scan my stack of 8mm films inherited from my parents. I can't wait to get started. I've watched lots of videos on similar machines and I have to say you really explain things well. Some things others didn't even touch on, like the scanner detecting when it's done and shutting itself off. Thanks for the showing more than a few seconds of the side by side of both methods you used. I have thought about using a similar set up to your video transfer system. But I don't trust the projectors I have to not destroy the film. I can see, literally from your comparison, that it has advantages. But these aren't academy award winning films, and I just want to preserve what I can for now because they're just getting older, like me. 😀 Anyway, thanks again for the great video!
ОтветитьI wondered if this can be used to scan double super 8 films?
ОтветитьFrom the vids I'm seeing about these types of digitizes, I'm not impressed at all.
This video was excellent to show a side-by-side of results from this machine and that of the old-school method with the Ambico transfer system.
The one thing that I don't like about the digitizer is that these clearly are using really crappy optical sensors and LCD screen.
The color from the original film is totally messed up with the digitized version. While the Ambico's results where very yellowish, you could still see better, saturated colors. But with the digitized version, the colors were muted a lot and not really correct.
The thing is, if the manufacturers would use better quality sensors and LCD screens, ALONG WITH an RGB adjustable LED light source, and an actual potentiometer where the "color" of the LED light source could be adjusted on the fly, allowing you to see the proper color on the LCD.
But the LCD in this is clearly a really REALLY cheap on. Not cheap as in $$$, but cheap as in the quality of the image.
These cheap ones often display everything very blue (cool) and there's no adjustments.
When I design fun gadgets, I use really good LCDs that produce accurate color. The ones I use are not THAT expensive either.
As for the pickup sensors, I haven't played around with any of those yet, other than what's in my Lab Electronic Microscope, which produces accurate color, down to super macro (300 magnification).
Hopefully, some company will bring out an updated version with perfect color.
Oh, and the other thing is that these use a toothed sprocket to advance the film. This can be VERY BAD for very old film.
With an OLD projector, it chewed up some very old film from the 1950s and on.
I trashed that projector.
I was able to land 2 projectors that don't use the toothed sprockets. They use rubber pinch rollers, much like a reel-to-reel uses.
These NEVER chew up the film and in fact, the film moves through the machine(s) smoothly, producing a non-jerky, non-skipping movie.
If I can get off my butt, I'd get my project done of converting one of those into a digitizer using Arduino (or ESP32).
Oh what fun.
Thanks
ОтветитьYou mentioned in your comparison the the video transfer system was sharper and brighter in the shasows, don't you think that's because you stopped down the digitizer .5 stops and the sharpness down to low on the digitizer?
ОтветитьCan this scan negative films?
ОтветитьThey should make these for 16mm.
ОтветитьVery interesting video! Great job
