Intel integrated graphics is the only way to go for Plex transcoding. Period.
ОтветитьNice setup.
Any idea on why my GTX 960 in windows pc is runing at 60+ % of VRAM and after passing and unpausing it drops down to 17% of VRAM ?
This is my Temporary .. I laughed, thinking of later video. "Ok guys its been 3 years and I need to fix mounting of my plex server". 😛😛
ОтветитьI will upgrade my old NUC 8 to NUC 12 with av1 decode support
All my media live on my NAS
Just ordered an i9-13900K for my plex server, I'm super excited!
ОтветитьiGPU isn't always an option on a "server" platform. Supermicro has some boards where the onboard gpu for the ipmi kills the ability to use the igpu. Ask me how much I wasted on a XEON before finding this out...
ОтветитьI normally enjoy and learn from your videos. The jerky movement in this video made it very hard to watch. Thanks to you I have built a Plex server.
ОтветитьI’m going to be using a 10th Gen i7 10700K with integrated graphics and I’m not worrying about GPUs for PLEX anymore. Great video. 👍
Ответитьyes, gpu transcoding has been dead for awhile. Quick sync is amazing.
ОтветитьIf you want things running for longer, why not get a bigger or more UPS'es?
ОтветитьI've been running a 9th Gen integrated intel for about 3 years, and it works great. It does sometimes give me trouble when people transcode 4k HDR content (I only let people who know what they're doing access my 4k stuff, but subtitles still tend to force transcoding). Other than that, it's worked fantastic - I've handled 8 simultaneous transcodes without issue. In a few years, I'll probably upgrade to a newer gen to try and improve 4k HDR with subtitles, but I plan on sticking with integrated graphics.
ОтветитьI have a Rizen 9 5950X and current 1660TI GPU for transcoding. I would like to upgrade my GPU. Any thoughts? Was thinking of the Quadro RTX A5000.
Ответитьi'll buy the cat
ОтветитьAll my servers are headless and no GPU, but I still have screen and control via IPMI (Dell iDRAC, HP ILO) once you start using that you will never go back.
ОтветитьThe solution is you don't make your storage solution for your media and front end server for your media the same thing. You could easily take the server that is currently your media server, turn it into something like a TrueNAS iSCSI destination, then attach anything to it to serve your media and transcode it.
ОтветитьI built what your planning. I would suggest i5 10500F with T600 quadro or T1000 if you have the $
ОтветитьCable... Management..
Look it up.
Desperately waiting for a new server build video! ...basically how to build one's own Simply NUC unraid server on a budget? I have recently moved to a location with .5g upstream fiber with no data caps and I want to open her up! I have a huge collection. I am running two 14tb off a usb dock and a 20tb My Book duo using my main computer which is somewhat dated once upon a time best of the best Asus gaming laptop(G750JZ). i7-4700HQ with a raided dual 128gb SSD and has a geforce gtx 880m ...however I pulled the disc drive and replaced it with a dedicated 1tb SSD for the server data drive. I need to get away from all these USB connected drives and put them in a rack ...and get my server off my main computer!
Ответитьhow is integrated for 4k video
ОтветитьAnybody else get a little depressed after watching byte my bits videos, doing countless hours of research, building a kickass budget plex server (with a GPU) and then a couple months later discovering this video and hearing "GPU's are pointless".... well f*** me then I guess lol.
ОтветитьIf you haven't sold your old Zeus server yet, keep it and use it as a [back up/file server].
ОтветитьHave you thought of ripping the guts out of Zeus and rebuilding it, you can get rid of those NAS units then?
ОтветитьCpu cooler could be rotated 90° if mounting will allow. The fins are blocking the cooling from the case fans in the current config. They could be utilizing the airflow from the case fans if rotated.
ОтветитьNEED HELP! I have no internet at my house and haven't for awhile all the tvs ran plex app and connect to server fine (hard wire not wifi). i pulled my server and took it to work to update all metadata. brought it back home and plugged it in. Now all my tvs say server is offline. I tried to connect with wifi and get the same respones. If i connect with wifi with my phone it sees the server fine and can play for a 1min since i dont have plex pass. The tvs can play movies from server with dlna still. i have tried manual on IP with no luck. When the app starts it knows the name of the plex server and my login info not sure if this is stored data. Anything else you might have for me to look at to fix issue.
ОтветитьQuick question: Do you remotely backup Zuess and Loki and what does that cost??
ОтветитьGo to Home Depot and get some hurricane ties from the lumber department and some more drawer rails ( slides)
ОтветитьI mean even if you use Ryzen you need a lot of transcodes before you have problems. The only reason mine has a GPU is for video games.
ОтветитьYou should get a Dell Server in the future. That way you can get iDrac and run Plex under ESXI or another Hypervisor.
ОтветитьIll buy zeus
ОтветитьBro at least put laminate down get rid of the carpet lol
ОтветитьDid you end up with a shelf solution. If not I would suggest the IBM 49P2610. They are designed to hold a fully loaded IBM blade chassis. If you were able pay shipping I have 3 or 4 sets I could just give you.
ОтветитьInstead of messing with all that power stuff, just get your a generac. When your house loses power, the generac auto starts. If your UPS batteries are rated for long enough for your generac to auto start, who ever is watching a plex stream, will never know the difference. In reverse, when the power comes back on, your UPS batteries will keep your plex server running long enough for the generac to power down and your house power comes back on. If wired correctly, anyone streaming from your plex server, will never know the difference.
ОтветитьFirst, why not put some solid flooring in the room, not carpet, plus it's easier to roll your cabinet out.
If your Plex server is mostly for just you and family, there's no real need for massive redundancy... Just let it shut down. I'd leave at least some form of GPU in there, does it really hurt anything?
Most UPS rails are beefier than those flimsy things you installed, get something stronger.
I use an Intel NUC 8 i5 with 32GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD as the system drive. 6GB of the RAM set up as a RAMDisk to hold the transcoded data. For streaming over the net when I visit family and to save my SSD's life by not needing to read/write as much transcode data. Then the media is actually stored on two 8TB external HDD's connected via USB hub. Figure adding more storage is easier that way, pop 2 more external drives and have one act as a mirror plus I use that little computer as network storage and to host game servers too. I have more than 2 external drives connected Bam... Plex server that works great.
ОтветитьGenerator? Also according to some builds on reddit, yours is still fantastic. and I also want to convert mine to a 10th or 11th gen i5, but in the mean time my 4790k @ 4.5GHz is meets my needs
Ответитьill take the kitty for tree fiddy
ОтветитьSo what I heard is you'll give me 2 dollars to take your cat and I'm cool with that
ОтветитьSo, I'm running an i3-9100F, with 16G RAM, Plex running in a container using the nvidia compatibility layer with a 1660 Super. Videos are NFS mounted from NAS. I regularly have 3 or 4 concurrent transcodes going on (obviously, I've got the driver patch installed that circumvents the 2 stream limit). The whole server runs on a Mini ITX board in an NR200 case that's compact and dead silent. Why so much extra hardware for your server? The setup you're describing seems like so much overkill for very little return on investment. What am I missing here?
ОтветитьYou are breaking main rules of racking equipment here
Heavy stuff at the bottom of the rack UPS, Heavy servers, switches, nas etc at the top
If them rails snap you are going too destroy your entire rack its also a major tipping hazard having heavy items high up
Nice shout out to SimplyNUC. I took a look and... it got me thinking... for the next build what do you think of something like a Beast Canyon i9 with a couple M.2 for the cache. Add something like the LSI00189 for an external JBOD enclosure or 2 ? Just putting it out there and haven't done much research on it. Would love to know your thoughts.
ОтветитьThat's why I don't mind having a wood rack: need to mount a 150lb server...pair on 1x4s will hold it forever
ОтветитьI'm waiting to see how Intel's discrete GPUs stack up. If Intel has a gpu model that is low profile and can be powered by the pcie slot only. It might be a good solution for having quick sync regardless of the platform and won't get you stuck with a specific motherboard, socket and cpu generation. I currently am using my old AMD pc with a 1650 Super (which is limited to 2 streams with stock drivers) as my Plex server. Transcode isn't really that necessary since most of my clients can direct play but sometimes you need it to downscale to a lower bitrate.
ОтветитьCan't be asked... just get a NAS
ОтветитьMaking good progress better then me lol...so what power backup supply do you use and why?
ОтветитьHoly shit those cables.
ОтветитьThey make generic wings for UPS's definitely get a set of those before the ones you have drop your server on top of your synologies. Also if you're not worried about water there's no reason to have your server that high in your rack.
ОтветитьSuprised you don't have a gennie all ready, out where you live!
ОтветитьLoving the new fan club!
