Molecular Electrocatalysts and Scalable Systems for Renewable Fuels

Bio: Dr. Charles Machan graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry and German at Washington University, St. Louis, in 2008. Dr. Machan then attended Northwestern University for graduate school where he studied Organometallic and Coordination Chemistries of Multidentate Ligands under the guidance of Dr. Chad Mirkin. He obtained his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry in 2012 as well as the Gelewitz Award for Outstanding Senior Graduate Student. From 2013-2016 he was a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Clifford Kubiak at the University of California, San Diego studying Electrocatalysis and Spectroelectrochemical Characterization Methods. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia. Here, Dr. Machan has advanced the field of electrocatalysis especially in regard to CO2 reduction.
