Gravitas: Should India revisit the relevance of reservation?

I cleared JEE Mains and Advanced. Got merit scores. I was not selected because reservation gave ceats to reserved candidates. And bar for score was increased. Those reserved candidates who scored 1/4th of mine were selected.

This is degrading our Country and the very reason we General Category are leaving this Country to die in the hands of it’s Constitution Makers. Let them be doctors due to reservation but they won’t be able to treat their own and die their own death same way. We ll choose a country that values.

The thing about income based reservation is that it also has flaws hence caste based reservation is better

As someone who missed UGC NET for 1% while someone got it with marks 10% less than me, I'm not going to be sorry to hold grudge.

People who have got reservation once should NEVER get reservation in future for themselves or any of their close family members. Else it will be purely exploitation of the reservation policy and not what the fathers of the constitution had aimed for.

You want to end reservation, first end caste based system!That was the main motive (since other steps failed drastically ) but unfortunately it has taken a wrong turn!

This anchor should visit RJ, MP, TN where still cast based discrimination occurs.
Still the mindset of Indians is preoccupied with caste based hierarchy!
The Vision of reservation was upliftment of so called ' lower caste' and end the discrimination by the so called 'upper caste' through education.
But in India no matter how highly qualified you are. Ultimately you are judged by your caste. And treated that way!

There is reservation not just in access to education but also in all types if government jobs, promotions which leads to caste based discrimination against the general class. You can't take a wrong measure to correct another wrong measure that happened 100s of years ago.

Yes, people from backward communities need to be uplifted but it has to happen by giving them proper access to education, not by doling out reservation in everything.

Someone from SC/ST not only gets admission quota in engineering or medical colleges but they also have low score requirements for entry exams to master's, a lot more UPSC attempts, entry scores and then promotion quotas in govt jobs etc.

Essentially it is a system that has promoted mediocrity along with reverse discrimination. I understand that there is caste based discrimination still prevalent but this current system of reservation has been increased every time just to get benefit of votes. Now it is 50 percent in most govt jobs.

You are not gonna find this type of reservation system prevalent in every aspect from education to employment in any developed countries. Say all that you want, the truth is one wrong doesn't correct another wrong.

Looking at the comment section, we are in desperate need of a course "Why india needs reservation" in the post matriculation syllabus.

Economic reservations is the best option now. Some states have 69% reservations and it kills merit and promotes mediocrity. However economically poor must have reservations.

Reservation should remain for 3000 - 7000 years in India.

I scored 147.2 marks out of 200 in SSC CGL and din'd get selected because cutoff for unreserved category was 150 while for sc candidate it was only 126. Now i have so much hate for reservation and i started disliking reserved cartegory thanks to the indian constitution and politicians of the country.

Drop out percentage after year or so in reserved seats is also high and many of those who took advantage of reservation proved to be unskilled and /or without knowledge of that particular course in which they took reservation.

let's get to the depth of results of reservations. Are the kids getting a highly intellectual passionate teachers?? when one is in survival mode competing with each other one does not grow intellectually. A free mind less of stress leads to thinkers. Indian education system does not nurture child's mind to grow as a strong personality with higher EQ. It does waste precious years of ones life. It does create and grow envy from childhood through competition which will affect the relationships as the child grows to adult. It breaks the confidence and self worth. Why would you want to pay for education system which breaks your child's future?? did it create any Aryabhatta, Chanakya, Raja Ravi Verma, Susrutha..etc.

absolutely, I quit india in 1999 and i am glad i did. It did not put my son through stress, it did not break his self confidence, self worth. I refer it as Quit India movement.

Casteism is harming India, reservation is just an after effect

Now, 12% people(EWS) of india are getting 10% reservation where as 55%(OBC) people of India are getting only 27% reservation. If you interpret above data you will find that Probability of selection is much higher in EWS class than OBC, in mathematical terms probability is double.
It may be possible that cutoff marks of EWS will be higher for some years but in near future this will go significantly lower than OBC’s cutoffs.

Her views points are considerable but alongside this if she can also run a campaign on encouraging people to have caste neutral names and drop surnames with practising caste neutral social behaviours that would have helped in talking about caste based segmentation holistically in India.

Look, you didn't understand the true meaning of reservation.. I know there is lot of problems in current reservation system and need for change it but it can't be ground to cancel it. First. Reservation is not provided only on basis of caste, caste is crucial ground but it's not sole ground even Muslim and Sikhs also have reservation inspite of no caste.

Second , reservation of india is designed to upliftment of backward people not to remove their poverty but to stand them on front line of society.

Third, supreme court many times in it judgments ruled that in post graduation there should be merit not reservation but in under graduate program it should be... Inspite of court guidelines the government deliberately use reservation for caste politics. And I also believe here it's need to be changed.

Fourth, reservation is make for affermative action it's not created inequality infact under article 14 treat the unequal as equal is inequality. So use the word reservation for inequality tells your WhatsApp University knowledge.

Five, look an example -if a person from sc category secure his seat in ias services then his heirs can't get reservation and reservation in promotion is included only for praposal representation of backward people in higher post... Tell me how many backward people in highest post of ias ?(cabinet secretary level) be clear your facts

Last, those drafted our constitution were more intelligent compare to me or you, I know they made reservation for only 10year but they also include English language in schools or colleges for only 10year and after it regional language should be preferred why you not take this as a faults of executive?

If you want to slow development of country just impose reservation in country.

Let’s look at reservation in the context of an analogy. 10 people are running a race. If three out of these are weak for different reasons and therefore, the finish line for them is placed at half the distance, as it is for the remaining seven, is that a valid race?! Is this a fair race if there is only one prize that will determine the fate of all 10 participants?! wouldn’t it be a fair race if the three weak participants are given the facilities to become strong and then compete to the same finish point as the remaining seven?! That making strong of the weaker castes can include financial assistance, academic coaching and even better food facilities. The competition needs to be fair to all and that includes general categories! Reservation is valid only for those with disabilities as they cannot get past the situation even with additional help.

Time to demand separate country for general category from india

The 10-year restriction was only applicable to reservations in the legislature, whereas reservations in jobs and education were never subject to such constraints. The so-called 'merit' of the oppressor caste couldn't even muster enough brainpower for basic research. Tough luck!

Then make a law to develop backward communities. There are so many backward people who are unable to get basic facilities to take advantage of the reservation. There's still less representation of backward communities. If there is discrimination against unreserved category happened then it's not fault in reservation system but in education system. Govt should extend boundaries of job fields. There are so many carrier options but unfortunately we are unaware of these. So we run behind govt jobs.

First off all speak out about the caste system prevalent in the the society based on orthodox hindu society and their mythical texts. Speak about the genesis of caste system. The share of upper classes in government posts and the previledge they are getting out of their surnames. Annihilate the caste system first, then reservation will end automatically. Otherwise don't spread hate among people.

Truth of Indian politics is that real Hindus are set against Muslim community in the name of temples etc and SC ST and OBC are enjoying the national wealth through caste certificate based reservation.
