This stuff always makes me laugh. Much of self esteem comes from one's perceived status in society. This idea one can have a concept of self outside the view of others is strange. Humans are social animals. I'm an old, ugly woman. That's not internalized- it's something society reminds me of over and over again. We all know there is a pecking order. But who cares? I simply understand how society views me and act rationally in light of that knowledge.

As I'm unattractive, I don't date. That's not awful, it makes rational sense. People focus too much on self esteem rather than learning to accept their own limits. Some things were not meant for me, that's fine. Know yourself and no one can use it to harm you.

I'm 57 and still have this I can't make it go away. I've done so much work on myself the last 15 years through 12 step work and therapy and it's still here.

I've noticed she talks ALLOT about the problem of living with trauma with no actual solution. But hey, you can purchase her course! Knowledge on trauma without the solution leads to living with a victim mentality! Not into this anymore- her or being a victim.

Dealing with an aging parent that continues to shame me is making my life absolutely miserable right now. Also just coming out of (hopefully) a situation that involved online stalking and harassment for several years. I get kicked from every direction, and absolutely do not know what to do about it. I have good habits, am responsible, and productive., but my life sucks.

It is not necessary about low self esteem.I know some grumpy people with bad mood or dark cloud and i dont see any low self esteem on them. They are just energy vampires.

I got an apology for “anything I might have done or said in the past”. I’m pretty sure made them feel better but it did nothing for me. Probably made things worse.

One thing I try to remind a dear friend who has low self esteem and gets into the same self-doubting spiral repeatedly, "You cannot change the Done. But you can change how you move forward from Right Now."

This channel has taught me so much about DearFriend. And then I recognized that the ADHD I thought I had is much more likely to be C-PTSD. And then I remembered some of the early childhood trauma that conditioned me to anticipate hostility and respond in like-kind. And now I can work on healing myself. And if DearFriend can notice improvements that I'm making, he may become interested in healing himself too. I know I cannot change him, but he has shown himself to be teachable when he wants to learn.

The part about being late for work all the time -- that hit home with me. I get stuck in an elastic sense of time and hurry-paralysis stress response. And yes, I feel awful about walking into work late. Being scorned, or potentially fired, for being late only tells me they don't like it. It doesn't teach me how to overcome this tendency. "Healing the C-PTSD" will be a good start. ❤

Random note: Dogs do not feel guilt. The "guilty look" is in response to your anger, body language, words, etc. They may look confused because frankly, they might be. If the "scolding" comes hours after the incident, that guilty look is definitely not guilt as it no longer has context to then.

They may be concerned because their person is upset and it makes them uncomfortable; they don't want you upset and perhaps they may be fearful and scared by US.

The biggest misunderstanding is that CPTSD stands for Childhood trauma. It stands for COMPLEX trauma. So not only caused by childhood. It is the cumulative experiences in life...chronic and/or repetitive trauma by for example work, relationships etc...

It confuse people that don't have heavy abuse in childhood how they came to having CPTSD.

“Remember, you have been criticising yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

Much as I cherish and agree with this particular quote by the late Louise L. Hay, I do find it a daunting uphill struggle to follow her advice. Your video is indeed a significant & stark reminder of the loathsome influence of poor self-esteem. Thanks!

Could you please tell me if you have a video for memory loss I feel my memory deteriorating so fast and I know it's somehow connected to CPTSD?

I’m angry about how the bullies in my high school have left such a long lasting impact on me. My self esteem has been low since then. I still think about them from time to time. The way they bullied me is to criticise me everyday, to make fun of me and pretend like they are joking. Ever since then, I can’t take jokes anymore, every time my friend make criticism or judge me jokingly, I take them seriously and cry alone later, though they didn’t mean to hurt me at all.

I was treated as the quiet kid who never talked,
because I never talked unless I really had to in school.
People told me that I was a shy guy,
"why don't you ever talk?"
like how am I supposed to answer that?
I certainly wouldn't say that I'm just afraid to,
even though I knew that was why inside.

Well I guess if you never develop good esteem,
you are left with quite a bit less of it.

Am I a loser or a failure? I'm 27, still live at home, having never moved out (housing is difficult in my city and I'm only on two waiting lists). I have never had a girlfriend or a date, and I don't even have a driver's license. I have both a learning disability and ASD, and sometimes I say unfiltered things or act weird in social moments. I assume my ASD makes me "less normal." I don't have too many friends now that I've graduated from college and most of my friends have left town. I graduated high school at TWENTY, having been kept back in preschool (speech delay) and homeschooled. I even graduated at a small charter school instead of the superior public high school my younger sister is at. I'm jealous of her; she's stronger than I would've been...and about to be a senior when I was a sophomore her age. I seem slow and helpless and do better with a guide than by myself (my ex-boss basically said that to my face).A disabled man who doesn't match standards, yes, but a loser too?

This is one of your best videos in my opinion. It explains so much about why I’ve lived the way I have. I feel my best when I’m my “weird” self but I’ve finally learned how to get along with normal people and life is so much easier. I still draw my strength from who I know I really am though.
