{Water is the most abundant compound in the universe} You should have read my reply to DanesFargone, prior to posting the above statement Saying that there exists very much water, is a statement that is relative to our human experience. Simply the Pacific Ocean contains very much water...not to mention the total amount of water within the universe. However, when you say that water is abundant within the universe, you must consider the quantity of water, relative to the size of the universe

@Chuichupachichi - 22.08.2012 10:11

Within that context, even the maximum potential quantity of water within the universe cannot exceed extremely scarce. Hydrogen accounts for approx 74% of all matter within the universe. Helium accounts for approx. 26%. The remaining less than 1% is divided among the many remaining elements, including Oxygen. Thus, even if all the universe's Oxygen was compounded with Hydrogen to make H2O, still, that would be an extremely insignificant quantity of water in relation to the size of the universe

Now, when you consider that even the maximum potential quantity of water within the universe, can be only extremely insignificant. Combined with the fact that its required for H2O to be in liquid form to sustain life & the only extraterrestrial water that is known to man in certain terms, is frozen. Also, that since the size of Earth is universally extremely insignificant & the planet's surface is over 70% liquid water (not to mention subterranean water)

"Two teams of astronomers have discovered the largest and farthest reservoir of water ever detected in the universe. The water, equivalent to 140 trillion times all the water in the world's ocean, surrounds a huge, feeding black hole, called a quasar, more than 12 billion light-years away. " NASA

Hmm, that's interesting because Europa has more liquid water than the earth. "With a volume 2-3 times the volume of water in Earth's oceans, the global ocean on Europa holds out a tantalizing destination in the search for extraterrestrial life in our solar system." (From the May 24 2012 Astronomy Picture of the Day). It's strange how abundant water is, just within our own solar system, huh?

It's not full of water. There's some H2O out there, but liquid H2O is pretty hard to find. In that sense, there is some significance to our world… if only because the universe as a whole is so inhospitable, and the earth is so hospitable. All the more reason to be good stewards of our limited resources.

If you had read my comment carefully, you would have noticed I wrote that Earth possesses a "monopoly on water". Thus, I wasn't saying only that planet Earth is blue, but that its blue due to being covered almost entirely by water I can't prove something that's non-existent. You prove a liquid water, blue planet, aside from Earth

In a new paper, astronomers explore the properties Kelper 62e and 62f, which are part of the five-planet system orbiting the star Kepler-62, suggesting that both planets are water worlds and the first viable candidates for a habitable zone water planet.

Analysis of new and archived observations of a well-studied star known as Gliese 667C have revealed a system with at least six planets, including a record-breaking three super-Earths orbiting in the star's "habitable zone" where liquid water could exist on the planets. This is the first planetary system found to have a fully packed habitable zone.

Water is a critical molecule for human life, and, because it is abundant in space, it also plays an important role in the life of molecular clouds and the stars and planets that form in them. In 1998, a NASA team led by Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics astronomers launched a mission to study water in space–the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite. SWAS found water nearly everywhere it looked.

"Think of the rivers of blood, spilled by all those generals and emperors, so that in glory and triumph, they can become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
"Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel, on the scarcely distinguishable habitants of some other corner. How frequent, their misunderstandings. How eager they are, to kill one another. How fervent, their hatreds.
"Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light."

I must credit Carl Sagan with my intellectual awakening. Being emotionally & physically abused as a child, I was directionless, a feather blowing in the wind. Then in the 10th grade, I was given the assignment to watch Cosmos each week and to pen a report on my understandings. From that point until now, I have cherished the scientific method and was forever bathed in the wisdom of science. While I respect each person's right to their point of view, why would 44 people watch this video if they were disinclined to have an open mind e.g. True Believers in Christianity. I don't watch Christian videos to dislike them...
