You can tell this is fake because when he ran out of rounds he didn't fix his bayonet and release a loud "BANZAAAAAI" And charge across the open range at the final targets and instead reloaded. Everyone knows the Japanese only used bayonets and never reloaded.

Great marksmanship with that rifle and a hefty sounding one at that! Can only imagine the discomfort of having a few of these plus a woodpecker chewing up the foliage around you!

Anyone know where to get reproduction aircraft sight wings? My type 99 has the screw holes to attach them but no wings.

We have one .

They stopped using it because the Japanese are “ Losers of every war”.

We smashed them into submission on that historic eventful day of rightful retrabution. A Super Power they still today live in utter fear of. Yes , The USA .

Alone as a nation they now must suffer Chinas incroachment and coming future attacks on Taiwan and surrounding regions.

They never should have crossed the line that awakened the “ Dleeping Giant.

Again, now awake and it’s
not “Woke!” But rather pissed off big time.

A great reckoning is on the rise .

Sights can be graduated for measurements of distance that a culture may use. An example is the Russian mosin rifle. It’s sights are graduated in a unit of measurement known as an Arshin which is about 28 inches. If you think the sights are graduated in yards or meters you will fell a struggle using the sights on distance, until you translate Arshin to yards or meters. What increment measure did Japan use? Meters or a increment of Japanese origin?

cock on close and bolt handle close to the trigger, fastest design as less hand movement. I use both the type99(early one) and lee Enfields (various ages) all fully stocked for hunting

I have a very early nagoya type 99 that has sadly had the stock cut down but out of all my mil-surp rifles is hands down my favorite to handle and cycle. Being an early production the machining is impeccable, and everything is finished nicely. Currently waiting on a 7.62x39 chamber insert to make it more reasonable to shoot without more permanent modification.

I picked one up a few years ago for cheap. I was impressed. Probably the best of the Mauser clones and was very cleverly engineered. I can use my thumb to operate safety without taking a hand off the rifle, the dust cover was unique for its time (and effective) and the split stock design to accommodate the soft domestically available wood is also unique and effective. I load myself which cuts ammo costs in half even with new brass vs paying Norma's ammo prices. Its even cheaper when I reload the used brass. It uses commonly available .312 bullets like you would see with .303 or 7.62x54. If youre in a pinch and cant find the PRVI Partizan brass, you can trim down .30-06 cases and run them through a resizing die and it works great.

Out of curiosity, (the family would never part with it), but how much are these rifles worth? My grandfather captured one in ww2 with chrome rifled barrel, polished receiver, mum still in tact, airplane sights, bayonet and bayonet scabbard, sling, (but it's very dried), cleaning rod, etc.. in great condition, but never fired since 1945, (he refused to let anyone fire it because he knew it had killed troops). Thanks.

I would love to see a video on making the most of '99 iron sights in low light situations, rapid target acquisition, etc.

Iron sight systems are under taught today.

Your analysis of tactical doctrine sheds light on the manufacturing changes of the Axis rifles as the war progressed. Late war K98s retain their long range adjustable sights, but lack a bayonet lug. Type 99 manufacture saw the opposite changes come to pass - bayonet lugs stayed, while the rear sight was reduced to a fixed peep sight that’s good for man-sized targets out to ~300 yards.

I own a type 99 that someone rebarreled in 6mm Remington with a heavy barrel and a nice wood target stock. Whoever it was new what they were doing because they free floated the barrel and bedded the action.

Next to the OSA3 The type 99 is my second choice for a bolt action rifle. The OSA3 Is also Light, and has The Best sights of any Bolt Gun. I thought about using my Finn Mosin as an Anchor for my Boat it's so Heavy. Yes do the Mad minute Vid. But please zero them at 100 yards first.. Great video!

The rear peep sight on the Arisaka, is a much better sight then the one on the Finish Mosin. I have both rifles and would much rather pick the Arisaka if i had to choose one of the two. Also, the Arisaka, is much lighter weight than the Finn Mosin

These videos would be so much better is you would please zero the rifle @ 100 yards on paper before you fire the course.. Adjust the front sight with a brass drift punch and get the rifles windage correct & check the elevation also. It's frustrating to watch these like this.

I was fortunate enough to shoot one of these a couple years back at my local range. The gentleman who brought it in was a regular and his rifle was also the anti-air variant and had most of the chrysanthemum still visible on the barrel. Very cool piece of history.

I owned a type 99 for a few years. A very cool well made rifle, but ammo was just too expensive for me to enjoy shooting it. I eventually sold it because of that.

Chrome lined and uses Metford rifling... Many people will see this type of rifling and think it's shot out - Not even close. I love my full mum series 23 Type 99 made by Kokura. So easy to reload using 06 cases and you have many bullets to chose from. I even like the safety, its fast handling and appreciate the rifles inherent great strength and innovation... Nobody does heat treatment any better, and would argue this rifle was the overall best of the Mauser patterns issued during the war.

I have two military surplus rifles where the sights start at 300 meters, a type 99 and a Kar98AZ. My brother hates that feature but I love it. Under good conditions, someone with good eyesight can land 300 meter shots with these rifles no problem. With this setup you won't have soldiers adjusting their sights for 2 or 300 meters, which in my opinion is very practical.
