I think Klaus always loved Hayley. But Hayley fell in love with Elijah that is why he never confessed. In one episode of season 1 when Hayley was pregnant during the witch festival when vampires attacked everyone when the lights went off and she fell . When the lights turned on Klaus was going towards her to pic her up but she called Elijah and that is why he stepped back. That's when he realises she loves him and because of this they always respected each other , cared for each other but never confessed their love

Its 2022 and the door to the multiverse has been officially opened. So as not to diminish the story that has already been established, in another universe, these two had a different ending. In those few moments before Hailey died in this universe, Klaus managed to find the strength to fight off Elijah because he looked in Hailey's eyes and saw what she was about to do. A miracle happened (sorry, not creative enough to come up with something that works) and Hailey did not die. So none of them died. But Elijah forever remained in the state where his memories are locked away. Hailey will forever love him, but his betrayal of his family changed something. Not just in their dynamic, but also in their dynamic with Klaus. So Klaus and Hailey watched over him in the years to come.
Something also changed between Klaus and Hailey. It's like they've been as one for many years. There's no butterflies or anything like that. It just felt natural. It started with comforting touches on each other's arms. To holding each other's hands when the darkness becomes too strong. Years passed and then the butterflies did come. Finally, endgame. As Kol put it, everyone would look at their togetherness and say, "Welcome to the party. We have been here a thousnd years."

it's obvious that klaus loved hayley. maybe not as his lover but as the mother of his child, a friend and a family. he cared for her since vampire diaries, he just doesn't really show it that much. he trully loved and cared for her. 💘

They definitely secretly loved each other. May be not romantically but a true deep connection of pure understanding that's so hard to find even with ur romantic partner. I'm sure klaus had a thing for her in the beginning but then he realised that she fell for Elijah and removed himself out of the equation. Few examples are he feels embarassed when Hayley calls out Elijah name after Marcel's attack in some get together. Then in one scene he asks Hayley what is special about Elijah that inspires instant admiration and she says he was kind to her. He felt bad about himself being rude with her and therefore he lost her. Also while she was writing a letter to hope ( hope wasn't even born ) klaus asks Hayley whom are u writing the letter to among all ur many suitors and he wishes it to be himself which he says in his own way "don't tell me it's me, i thought I was out of the running ages ago" which actually implies he wants himself to be counted as one of her suitors. His face turns bitter when Jackson and Hayley get married and he couldn't watch her kiss him. All these things surely strongly indicates that klaus definitely had something for her at the very beginning itself. However after cami's role in his life he quiet turned towards her leaving Hayley and Elijah to be that perfect couple.

I was obsessed with this show, feel like watching it again.. yay for Netflix:)
