Was all useless due to the bombing force of the US-Army-Airforce
ОтветитьCommanders of Tiger and Panther tanks were given strict orders not to engage Shermans equipped with the long gun but to leave these tanks to the Infantry. Firefly crews did compain that during battles, it seemed like every German was shooting at them, they were probably correct.
ОтветитьGreat work by the Canadians- as is always the case. First class spanking given to Fritz!
ОтветитьDon't tell the wehraboos!
ОтветитьYou show one minute of the video then you hit us with an ad. Goodbye
ОтветитьAt a thousand meters, from the flank, Panthers would have been decimated by virtually ANY allied AT guns. Panther had impressive strengths, but critical liabilities that were exploited by savvy allied tankers.
Ответитьit's Caen the city not con
ОтветитьThe Sherman Firefly, or as I like to call it “The Cat Killer”, was a formidable machine that packed a serious punch with that 17-Pounder gun.
ОтветитьD day was launched not to Liberate Europe from Nazis but to prevent Europe from falling in Soveits hands Western allies only care about their interests nothing more
ОтветитьDefinitely WASN'T a victory of those garbages firefly sherman vs. penther tanks, but a strategic victory of armies of 3 countries agaiinst a dying germany.where war crimes of allied commanders killed milions of civilians. Those murderers were never convicted, because.. winners never pay.
ОтветитьThe 75mm gun and its assorted shell types were very effective in attacking enemy troops and supporing our own troops, and in urban combat. Against german tanks at longer ranges, they were at a disadvantage. The bulk of Sherman use was in support of troops. Despite the ease of replacement, they were the right tank for the majority of combat.
ОтветитьI remember reading somewhere that the firefly tanks used to attract the enemy fire more than the regular Shermans so it became common practice for the firefly crews to paint half their barrel white to try to disguise its length so as not to get picked on so much.
ОтветитьThe Tigers had a formidable reputation but the addition of the British 17lb gun was a game changer in this theatre.
ОтветитьIt wasn't the Elgins, It was the First Hussars. The gunner was Archie Chapman who got 4. Sgt Art Boyle got another. It was 3 troop 1H commaned by Lt Gordie Henry.
ОтветитьB.S allied propaganda.
ОтветитьThe US should have been making 17 pounders like crazy and cramming them into every Sherman they could.
Ответить"Canadian villages" Wouldn't that be in Canada and not Normandy?
ОтветитьUH oh, you forgot the Free French and the Free Poles! Small contingents but there never the less! And Free French Navy fired on France during the invasion period.
ОтветитьThe footage is unreal!
ОтветитьThe allies were only effective for a 10 to 1 superiority and the almost non-existent German air force was nil
Ответитьthe firefly tank was rubbish just like the other one
ОтветитьYou sure this story isnt somewhat embellished?
ОтветитьI can’t stand the synthetic voice
ОтветитьComputer written and spoken. Not very good.
ОтветитьSmaller, lighter, faster and as hard hitting, along with better organised forces/tactics, the 'Firefly' was the right tank at the right place and at the right time!
ОтветитьGood video. Minor point, but Canada flew the Red Ensign with the Coat of Arms of Canada until 1965 when the Maple Leaf flag replaced it. Most shows get this wrong too.
Also the Canadian Army still pronounces Lieutenant the way the British do….. left tenant.
Well trained crews have advantage

ОтветитьThe zionist propaganda in the ad is really obnoxious, by the way...
ОтветитьLucky Fireflies...
ОтветитьAnother great presentation. It was not only the Firefly that mounted the 17 Pounder anti-tank gun, at Buron two M10 17 Pdr SP Achilles of the 62nd A/Tk Regiment, I British Corps, destroyed 15 Panthers and PzKpfw IVs of 12 SS Panzer Division.
ОтветитьThere is much confusion as to what happened this day with competing claims from AT guns and tanks. There is no doubt the Panthers were destroyed but how or by whom is not 100% certain. The Shermans in question were tanks (6 Troops) being moved forward by elements of all 3 Regiments in 2 CAB & The Elgin Regiment who were the Forward Delivery Regiment for Canadian Armoured Units. Their job was to ferry tanks from depots and repair centres to the Regiments in the field. The Elgins (25th Canadian Armoured Delivery Regiment) had 3 Squadrons all working with different Units and it appears some Elgin crewed tanks were being sent forward as replacements when the Panthers were sighted. The Elgins were not a 'Sabre' Regiment but obviously they could use the tanks if they had to and this is what happened. The 12th SS Panthers were knocked out by a motley group of reinforcements and a tank replacement ferry unit!
Ответить12ss had no combat experience except for their officers, had mark 4's as well as panthers and was nearly 20000 strong -the size of a small corps!
ОтветитьThe problem was the uncoordinated attack by the 12th SS. It wasn’t so much Fireflys vs Panthers as lack of synchronization between artillery, infantry and armour. The Germans had already lost air superiority.
ОтветитьStupid in war thunder 17pdr can't pen panther yet it was made to like wtf gaijin?
ОтветитьThe Hilter Youth fought like Lions Attack the Canadian Sherman's. THEY CALLED TGE SHERMAN'S TOMMY COOKERS.Because when hit they catch fire 🔥 quickly .Even the American called them zipz
ОтветитьThe Germans did not attack with 40+ Panthers. 1 Kompanie would be the equivalent of about 17 Panthers total. x3 Zug's and the HQ unit made up of two Panthesr, the Kompanie HQ and Adjutant. The attack on the 8th was led by Kurt Meyer, elements of the 4th Kompanie SS Pz. Regmt 12 and probably a Company size of Grenadiers. Hauptsturmfuhrer Hans Pfeiffer had been killed, along with Oberscharfuhrer Erwin Wohlgemuth was also killed. 6 tanks were lost in street fighting. The attack took place at NIGHT. The initial attack was with Panzer IV tanks during the day, before the 8th. and after the 8th.
Ответить6 Panzers in 4 minutes destroyed, accurate and fast loading
Ответить😛😛😛❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
ОтветитьMy Great Uncle Howard Burns was in B Coy, the Lake Superior Regiment, the Motor Battalion of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division. He was in the thick of the fighting here.
Ответитьan improved ronson
ОтветитьYou mean a very satisfying tank battle.
ОтветитьThe Firefly Sherman was a pragmatic and effective solution to the anti-tank gun problem for 21st Army Group whuch faced the vast bulk of German Panzers in 1944-5. It was replaced in mid 1945 by the Centurion.
ОтветитьOne thing that Lazerpig pointed out about the Panthers, Tigers, and other big gun German vehicle was that their advantage in firepower was basically wasted in the West. There's no point in having a tank that can kill something at a long distance if you often meet your opponent at half that distance or less. Those big guns then become a liability.
ОтветитьWOW
