Afghanistan, Mongolia, and China as always been a problem for Russia, then there's the other types that are problematic. That's part of turning to communism..theybshshouldnt have but then they go the other extreme...they have to be careful about terrorism, and aggression.

At the time of World War II...Imperial Japan had a navy, army, and airforce, and VERY WEALTHY..NOT POOR, sane for China, other Asian nations may have had simpler or poor living standards. That's because of GREED, hence the word "imperial". They had access to Western universities too. Wealth, and an elite wealth of the ultra rich.

This is a out a New World Order view, and believe or not. Bad angels, and or their descendents and what THEY created that got out of control fairly quickly caused not quite this but almost until the Great Flood. At the time before the flood you had types here found in the fossil record of their manipulations, not all were problematic it depends. So, things restarted because it became that bad. You never let down your guard about protecting freedom and democracy. It did matter about the significance of each country in Europe and their specific history. This new world order is what is fought against in both world wars. He maybe right that trying another way, via diplomacy, working on the individual terrorist who caused the initial problem.was better. But, invasions within Russia and that area in war over so long changed things and made for a future where communism developed and enveloped. He is sort of talking about communism, or socialism which is an anathema to democracy. Example, the United States and other Allied nations governments..we dont surrender to anyone our democracy and freedom. He mentioned Napoleon..the British fought him..he wasn't the same as Hitler, and some mystery there. But, he forgot that other people and countries with Western Civilization were not all Catholic. And, he did a good service for France, many people loved him, but to try to put Europe in one lump under his thumb wasn't a good idea. That's called a dictator. It was bad enough the war between Catholic and Protestant. It's complicated. I am.not sure, but somehow Bertrand was messed with to espouse such ideas. He should know better as an English man.

He shouldn't have gone to Russia feeling isolated about feeling out of place about WWI. He is espising the aggression and mantra of the axis of evil to control the world at the acquiescence of national governments. He had some kind of influence, threat, trauma to say these things. And, it is through charity and missionary work we help other weaker nations. It's their choices not to be despotic, repressive, or terrorist...a threat. They have to choose, and that's our help we give to support democracy, prosperity, and choices. There will always be poor, without interference the wrong way, population would be balanced naturally. This man is in a state of under threat.

As so many of the comments reflect, his gentle manner and clarity of expression convey a sense of wisdom which feels timeless, as least on human scale. I first learned of Mr. (Sir?) Russell as the author of Principia Mathematica. Another great mind which made its mark in human history of this age.

I listened to the whole thing and concluded that people who are intellectuals in a technical field like mathematics should probably stay clear of politics. I had no idea he advocated for a "stationary population" and a "global government" and a "global army". At best he was naïve in that respect and at worst as evil as those who long for such things today.

How sadly stands our present day "public intellectuals" and politicians with their vulgarity and ignorance stand in terms of learning, discernment and wisdom in comparison to the erudition, eloquence and fundamental integrity of this man. He harkens from a bygone age when the chrystal clear thinking he prescribed then is so catastrophically absent from today's public discourse.

As Russell explained, beware of anyone with un-kindness at the core of their beliefs.

Being a philosopher can be an actual occupation let alone not to mention a career? Here, all I got was an early death sentence. Lawyers compensated without having to respentation anything other than a masonry tag and a nice sign laughing at dumb clients foolish enough to pay for their 'services.'.

He's wrong about war. Most of the modern technology is result of wartime inventions. War creates advancement, peace creates stagnation.

I’ve read his book A History of Western Philosophy very carefully.
I hope more people can learn Chinese to get comprehensive firsthand information about China and seek more job opportunities.
Chinese is not that difficult to learn as many people imagine. Chinese primary school pupils can easily learn 3000 characters, which cover 99 percent of Chinese characters in newspapers and books.
I’ve spent lots of time in making many videos teaching Chinese in a humorous way. I hope somebody can give me some advice about how I can reach my target audience who want to learn Chinese.
