Is that one of those petcube type cameras that will give them a treat or you can play with them with a laser light? I've been thinking about getting one of those, and was wondering how well they work.

Not sure how you spell her name, but Zara looks so much like my newest addition, Fire Fly. I'd include a picture of I knew how.

Please don't depend on those auto-feeders, especially if you leave for an extended period of time and rely on that to feed your cat/dog.
They will break and then what's the pet to do? I get an extra bag, open it and make sure there's a buttload of fresh water just in case something happens and I can't get back in time. Also, cracking a window helps. Be well.

My Madison does the same thing. Many times I find him at his feeder waiting a few minutes before it dispenses his food. This guy can tell time. Cats are so smart.

Why do cats take the food out of the dish and then eat it?

This is concerning to me and I am sure alot of animal lovers would agree with me. I don't believe that you feed your cat's very often. Normally house cat's don't panic like that when their food is always available. You need to give them more food.
