This was a great explanation. Though I'd like to mention, my textbooks also mention how the components are less or more soluble because of the polarity of the mobile and stationary phase that affect the retention factor. Polar stationary phases readily interact with more polar substances of the ink/drug/etc. while non polar substances do not bind as often and hence results in low retention factor. If this viewpoint was included in the video, perhaps it would help more struggling students like me.
