So what are your thoughts on Studio One 7? Seems like a forced subscription model. Didn't PreSonus learn from Waves mistake?

I've been using Presonus Studio One since 2009 and still on version 5. I don't use a ton of their plugins and none of their virtual instruments, loops, or samples. There's really no benefit of going with the subscription for someone like me but I am considering upgrading to version 6.

When I get motu unit fixed OR somehting with less latency.. my paid for version 5.x BETTER still work.AND I should STILL BE intittled to download and install it 4 more times on newer system (for when I get M2 macmini or better). or I will be a problem for them!

paid for it.. Im good for 5.x.. dont need sub.. if and when it works on PC and Linux.. will consider upgrading, AND pay 1 time!

Hey, Barry, I have been a LOYAL follower of your channel since I got into this game two years ago at the ripe age of 42. I have a "dual question" for ya.... 1) I haven't seen a review from you on the new Presonus interfaces; if you have one, could you please leave a link, and if you do not, could you please sway Sweetwater into helping tou give one? 2) I recently (like 3 weeks ago) got the Quantum HD 2 as an upgrade from a Scarlet 2i2 2nd Gen. I've been SUPER impressed by some things with the Quantum, but not so much with some orhers.... That all being said, $500 for this upgrade along with S1 Plus for 12 months (S1 is my main DAW, and I LOVE IT), plus a "perpetual license" seemed freggin GREAT.... I would really love to hear your opinion on these topics, sir. Thank you for all that you do. Cheers!

I jumped ship and back to a massively improved Cubase 13. And I’m very glad I did. Studio One has become too much about corporate greed since Fender took control. It’s such a shame because it’s great software with talented creatives behind it. I upgraded to S1v6 before all the madness got real and then discovered I was no longer entitled to complete ‘point upgrade’ because I hadn’t got a subscription!? … No! This is not the future of DAWs. This is an aggressive business jumping into music creation and trying to dictate to the consumer.

So if you do the $20 a month, does that still allow you to use it after the year is over? without paying 20

How is that done in Studio One 6?

How do you update/remix a song if you cancel a subscription or let it lapse? You lose access to all the plugins, etc. used to make the original mix.

After 10* years as a PreSonus fanboy, SynthGate was the final straw and I've moved to Ableton Live.....and loving it. I've had more fun and creative inspiration in the last few weeks than I've had in years with FenderSonus. And while S1 is still a great DAW for an engineer or a recording artist, as a creator, Fender has left many of us wanting.

Reaper is an incredible DAW. You should really try it before going to studio one.

This is the most intuitive DAW Period. It does not do everything Nuendo/Cubase does. But, It is the as Good of a DAW IMOP! Dolby Atmos/Spatial features are just dope.

For me this is just another example of a good company being bought out by a large corporation or private equity firm. It instantly becomes all about the money and the customer's input becomes less important. I went through it with Avid and moved to Studio One because of it. Now they're heading down the same road. It may be a slightly different road but they're all headed to the same place and that is a forced subscription model. It will take a few more years but that's the long term plan. Businesses want the continuous income stream they get from subscriptions on their books for valuation and they're willing to force their customers into subscriptions to get it.

very pisssed off and disappointed by the new update forcing PRO users to take a back seat, no longer prime users of Presonus, you have to subscribe now. YUK PRESONUS - you put a bad taste in my mouth, make me feel like I now have an inferior product!!

It's mafia game Barry. They will be slow on update and upgrade like Avid protools in order to force you to pay for another tiny update or upgrade every year! Logic and FL Studio understand the rights of its customers. They don't charge for upgrade.

For the hybrid model...Just be careful NOT to use the fx and intruments that you will lose when your subscription ends, otherwise there will be missing elements in your saved song files. Or at least be sure to completely finish and bounce down your stems to audio if you think you might revisit old projects that use that stuff. That's another way they get ya.
I'm still on version 5 perpetual also. Version 6 feature updates were extremely underwhelming, and since i mainly use NI Maschine for the heavy lifting with recording midi (and DAW midi just for finishing touches at most), I tend to prefer recording in Reaper for its intuitive audio editing and mixing.

It’s funny how Fl studio ( Lifetime updates) has been on this type of model since the beginning.

I use a PreSonus monitor. That said, I just bought an old four track tape machine. I'm sick of staring at a screen and also trying to emulate analog with ones and zeros.

STUDIO ONE IS A GOOD DAW!! I USED IT FOR A WHILE WHEN I WAS FIRST STARTING OFF AND LOOKING AROUND FOR A DAW TO USE AND THE ONE AND ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH STUDIO ONE!!! IS HOW SCRUFFY AND BLURRY AND PURE SH*T QUALITY THE CLIPS LOOK WHEN YOU PUT THEM ON THE ARRANGER TRACKS!!! NOW I KNOW MAKING THEM MORE CRISP AND CLEARER ISNT GONNA MAKE ANYONE A BETTER PRODUCER BUT PEOPLE WANT A DECENT LOOKING DAW!!!! SIMPLE!!!! HAVE U SEEN THE CLIPS WHEN U MAKE SOME CHORDS!!!??? IT LOOKS BLURRY AND THE CHORDS DONT LOOK LIKE CHORDS!!! THEY LOOK LIKE A FAT BLURRY BASS LINE OR SOMETHING!!! IT JUST LOOKS PURE TACKY!!! WITH EVERY OTHER DAW WHEN U PUT CHORDS CLIP ON THE ARRANGER U CAN CLEARLY SEE THERE CHORDS OR WHATEVER!! BUT STUDIO ONE CLIPS ARE JUST HORRIBLE AND DREADFULL AND VERY TACKY!!! Subscription daw services is extortion over time

This will be the end of Presonus after Fender bought them they will became Cheap Like Fender, I already uninstalled it, no one rule us we only rules, if we have experiences

Logic is like $200 or so perpetual and upgrades included mostly. Great ecosystem for a DAW.

i'm OK with paying a fee to go from every major version to a next major version, from 4 to 5, from 5 to 6, and so on, but i will never do subscriptions where you pay a monthly or yearly fee even when the program stays on the same version
i left adobe because of this, now i have affinity, but if they ever make their apps a subscription service, then i will change to another app imediately, maybe a free one like inkscape

We supported your company and this is how you return the favor, by creating a problem "subscription Based Usage" then selling us the sollution - So what I'm going to personally do is purchase the update and unsubscribe to Sphere Studio One "plus the bullshit" and on every video I'm going to enourage people to buy the perpetual license or get the cracked version if you can't afford to pay these greedy bastards, at first I was promoting the brand like I had stock in the company, now your the fckn enemy , just like Protools aka "HoeTools"

Logic is logical but I think Studio One is fun.and you have a great channel.

The problem is, if you get the perpetual license by subscription, you won't get any subsequent feature updates for the current version, after cancelling the subscription. For instance, suppose you have version 7.5 of studio one and the sub. renewal date is coming and you decide to cancel it. After a month of cancellation, they introduce version 7.6 with some major updates and a hundred bug fixes but, you don't get a copy of that version unless you renew the subscription. It's absolutely a terrible marketing strategy imho.

Studio one + just sounds like pro tools professional update and support plan with a perpetual license. Avid has the distribution thing too. In general though this sounds cheaper though.

Give me a fourth alternative.

Dang, I was just about to buy the fat channel complete bundle for $150 and now I can’t… Guess I need a need to look for a new DAW as well! (Decade old user of Presonus products 🤦)
