This music is extremely annoying and it's louder than the actual voice speaking.
ОтветитьWow. What a balanced and nuanced perspective. 🙄
ОтветитьWhat is that? A house for ants!!!!
ОтветитьYou can put external insulation on any building.
ОтветитьBuild in brick or stone and will last for centuries
ОтветитьSomeone tell him that the coughs and throat clearing really really needs to be edited out!
ОтветитьLove everything about this video!
ОтветитьPlease do a video combining the timber frame with hemplime
ОтветитьWhat is sips??
ОтветитьIsn't it possible to leave those sticks inside the insulating envelope in stick frame building the same way as in timber frame??
ОтветитьI fell in love with Timber Framing as a Style the instant I saw the first Pics of it. Then, when I learned a little about the technique, I wanted to start learning to use Chisels and slicks and a mallet, measuring, locating, scribing the locations of the cuts...
What I found was no5thing I'd done PREPARED ME with the Skills I Need.
NOT all my years of drawing, whether carefully laid out architectural perspectives, or silly cartoons... NOR all my years of dedicated fiddle practice, nor all my carpentry projects and summers of framing, NOT EVEN using a Waffle-Faced Hammer without smashing my fingers!!!
Not complaining, just acknowledging that learning proper use and care of the tools — storage, cleaning, SHARPENING, leverage, angles of attack, control of angles thru a stroke, PROPER SHARPENING, accuracy of measuring scribing, and depth of cutting blades in planing tools, AND SHARPENING are all absolutely Crucial.
no wonder houses are so expensive....its cause of the frame of how home is built
ОтветитьYears ago, Steve Thomas of This Old House," promoted a project with timber framing. He stated that the best wood for this type of construction was old growth Douglas fir from the Pacific Northwest. That was in the "This Old Money" phase of the show. It was amazing to me that many people then were very concerned about the old growth forests and their unique ecosystems disappearing in the Northwest. Now, I think that they are using second growth (or younger) trees. There are very few mills in the Pacific Northwest that can even process the big logs.
ОтветитьMost old farms in The Netherlands (and rest of North Western Europe) are build hundreds of years ago using a timber frame, that's why they still stand today.
Indeed by using trees from the site.
I got confused by the title calling the stick frame " conventional".
I don't know much about this. (Not sure why the algorithm brought me here) But this really reminds me of medieval cruck frame houses with waddle and daub between.
Ответитьwhat is the angle of the spine of the roof and betweenthe roof and the walls?
ОтветитьAs a long-time timber-framer, I find it disappointing to hear that SIP panels are characterized as the only apparent cladding system recommended. Many of us do not like SIPS and will never use them.
ОтветитьWhat is this? A center for ANTS?!
ОтветитьTHANK YOU PAT!
ОтветитьIt took a little while before i realized I was watching a commercial for his school. I guess I only have one question how much more is a timber frame going to cost me?
ОтветитьThe zip system sheathing goes up to R12. This is what some people call outsulation…insulation that goes on the outside. You can use it on stick framing too. I’m not a builder but it seems that timber framing is much stronger and the wood can dry easier so maybe it won’t rot as easily.
ОтветитьThey may be great but the website has a super scammy feel. Everything you click has a sign in/sign up barrier like a hard funnel. Not user friendly and you really can't even explore pricing and what they offer without maneuvering around registration or pay walls. If their site is that way, I would hate to see the actual course.
ОтветитьYou can build a stick frame home with an even smaller exposed surface area for heat conduction, have you never heard of double-stud wall framing and it's more lumber-efficient alternatives? Why are you selling timber framing as if one person can do it when a single person will have an incredibly difficult time assembling such heavy materials? I bet you that for the price of a sawmill and crane RENTAL I can buy land and enough "sticks" to build a house, and if I already had a mill I'd cut my wood into sticks so that I would be able to lift it myself! Chances are that you'll need to source your timber from across the country/state too, which will add to the cost exponentially for every pound and mile delivered.
ОтветитьMy son was able to repair our 100 year old barn, and put on SIP panels, and they even framed 2x6's on the roof, to add more insulation. Unbelievable, now weathertight.
ОтветитьIf you mill the posts from your own property wood, what are the implications for the wood being too wet? Do you have to send it out for kiln drying first?
ОтветитьWhere are you located. I would love to take a 5 day class. Is only 5 days needed? Is there a certification afterwards
Ответитьbackground music detracted from the message
ОтветитьNext, show the timber framed building with all the window and rough opening cutouts. Sure, now it looks hollow vs the stick framed building. But you're missing a lot of backing, rough openings & more lumber needed to be where it is comparable to the stick framed.
Ответитьthe problem with timber framing is that roof framing is often compromised by "stick-builders" - resulting is many sagging roofs in the house and often in the garage.
ОтветитьCool video.
ОтветитьHeavy timber all the way.
ОтветитьGet this Man a sip or Two of Water. ... Lordy
ОтветитьThe older ways tend to be better than most of today's "corporate profit" approaches.
ОтветитьA kind and good person I am sure but all the noises coming out of his mouth besides words are so distracting I wouldn’t choose to listen to him again.
ОтветитьIf you look closely you’ll see that those studs are nowhere near 16 inches on center
ОтветитьI built a doll house back in 1980 conventional studding... 1/4 ×1/2 × 12 " after studding out the first floor and putting in floor juices for the second floor it was so strong I could stand on top of it at 165 pounds.. so conventional framing is strong....
ОтветитьTimber framing is a very skilled trade, I can see why it's not popular.
ОтветитьHe should work on the throat clearing habit.
ОтветитьClear your throat!
ОтветитьIf you find this stuff interesting, looking up traditional Japanese house construction techniques: no use of nails at all in some cases, just excellent engineering and woodworking holding it together.
ОтветитьIsn't timber framing more traditional?
ОтветитьWood conducting heat... WTF are you talking about?
Ответитьfascinating
ОтветитьWhat a great video! Thanks for pointing these details out! Even after years of playing Halo CE, I had never noticed the living marines inside there.
ОтветитьWhat is this?
A school for ants?
His throat clearing is annoying.
ОтветитьIf you put wood panels on the interior roof, you also get a nice warm sounding room and get the added visual appeal as well. I love exposed wood!
ОтветитьThis is a load of nonsense. There is really only one reason to timber frame. That is to prove your great wealth and that you're willing to spend it lavishly on a home. A timber frame home is a great thing to put cocktails in your friends hands and walk them around and wave your hands and everyone will know you have great taste. I have built both kinds and I think there are better ways to show off your wealth and taste. It's very important when building truly nice homes that everything at eye level or "cocktail level' look perfect.
