Shame to hear about Vegas Vacation. I like it just as much as Vacation and European Vacation. I'd have absolutely taken another Chevy Chase Vacation movie over the deluge of crap we got in the 2000s like Van Wilder.

42 minutes and the clown never tells us WTF happened to Chevy

after seeing Donald Glover's "career" after Community, the guy seem like he has a huge chip on his shoulder and Chevy does not look like the guy to have much patience around a woke, race speech driven, asshole.

The movie Nothing But Trouble is a bit more interesting if you're familiar with the thriving metropolis of Centralia, PA and the underground mine fire that forced them to abandon the community around 1982. It's as if that real life disaster provides the backdrop for the film. Of course any chance to see John Candy in a dress is wonderful! But the character Dan Akroyd played is the star more or less. ANY BOZO could have played Chevy's part... literally any bozo. It didn't need any frantic ad-libbing to make it funny. What really made the film was John Candy (as the local constable) delivering lines so calm and cool as to nearly challenge Sgt Joe Friday. He was a good cop in a bad situation. And Dan Akroyd as a truly evil sherrif who could be reasonable at times... but don't let a banker cross paths with him. Then all bets are off.

Another reason for his downfall in the 90's was the rise of the next generation of actors playing idiots. Chris Farley, Adam Sandler and the like. They were pretty much doing the same things and went on to keep doing them for another 20 years in some cases, Sandler.

I never cared about him. Saw those family travel movies many times because I'm born in 1980, but never considered them trully lol material.

I'm sure I saw an interview with Dan akroyd where he said that Nothing But Trouble was so bad because he was drunk and on coke most of the time, while trying to direct. I'm sure he also said that Chevy chase kept ruining takes by trying to do his own thing. I've always thought Bill Murray and Rodney Dangerfield were funnier than Chevy chase in caddyshack. He let his ego get the best of him and believed anything he did would be funny and successful. Wrong. If he'd grown his comedy and moved with the times maybe he could have had more success.

Never liked him. His self-parodying cockiness act was never pulled off as well as more genuinely humble character actors, and worsened as his ego expanded. Also he tended to consider provocative comments alone to be funny enough that there was little attempt at humor, and this can easily be confused with his abusiveness. Also, how the hell can an actor who's difficult to work with ever become a good talk show host to other actors?

the Chevy Chase Show was NOT groundbreaking... David Letterman was groundbreaking as far as "new" talk shows, not Chevy... you didn't point out that Chase was petrified on stage during that show... there needed more info about The Chevy Chase Show... you almost celebrate it...

Chevy Chase had the world by string in the 8o's. For someone who wasn't a comedian, he was funny. His arragance and him being an asshole lead him to be a has been, bitter star. This was his own fault because the entertainment industry kept given him chances and shit and he kept acting like his shit didn't stink. Community was his comeback and it still was not good enough. People talk bad about Bill Murray yet Bill Murray still did Ghostbusters 2016, Ghosbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. I don't see Fletch Lives Again and Caddyshack 3 being made no time soon.

😢 I think I've made these comments on other videos regarding Chevy Chase. It literally breaks my heart to hear that amen who could play someone as great as Clark w Griswold Jr... Could be such a jerk to others!
I was born in 1989... I believe that is the year Christmas vacation released in theaters. I don't know if anyone from my family saw it in theaters.... But I will tell you this for as far back as I can remember age 4 I believe. My family has been iconically quoting Christmas vacation literally all throughout the year. We watch it every Christmas... And if you don't like to hear the quoting... You might not want to watch with us.

That's why it hurts to know that he's a jerk. I'll be honest I used to refuse to believe it... But it's been proven so many times... There's too many people with too many stories for it not to be true. It would be very interesting if I could sit down with him and ask him about why he became such a jerk. I'd tell him we were all good to you we all loved your movies... You had plenty of money... I just don't understand why you'd want to go down that road. You know what though I don't even have to ask... If you look at the stories and you really listen... It's just Chevy Chase thinking he's better than everybody else because at one point in time his star was gigantic. However... He might want to get it together... Or it may be a very lonely rest of his life.

Chevy Chase's second half would have gone a lot better had he directed his movies himself. It seems that much of his problem was not being able to take direction. Then he took out his frustration by being a smartass to everybody. Had he learned directing, he would've been much happier.

Seems like Chevy Chase typically played the role of a guy who was an idiot but a good guy at heart, and somewhat of the traditional American family man. In reality...only the JERK part was accurate in real life.

Caddyshack is one of the most over rated movies ever.

Yea so JRE say's he's a dickhead cause he's probably in pain from doing all the falls, but the guy was a dickhead way back in the early 80s so the logic there doesn't work. The guy is just a complete jerk, and just a mean spirited individual, who is extremely funny. Vegas Vacation is a criminally under rated movie. When they go to the redneck casino, and play pick a number and the other games that can't be fair, I laugh out loud watching it by myself. Also Rusty always winning and being Mr. PappaGeorgio is hilarious. It's such a good movie.

The actors for the Griswold kids changing with each movie was one thing, but how they were alternately the older or younger sibling made no sense.

Sounds to me like problems occur when he is not allowed to improvise. You don't need a script for that guy. Whatever he says, will be better then anything someone can write.
